which is easier?

swapping my current 6spd to a built auto, or selling it completely and building a whole new truck.

i hate the 6spd, daily driving is a pain, and i want to make big power and go fast in it. im not happy with my set-up so i know i want to save my money and go all at once with a built auto, head work, and twins...

so do i swap my 6 spd to an auto...or de-mod, and buy a 12v auto to build right the first time?

Well, since 12 valves are capable of making five times the power, cost a tenth as much, are six times as simple, can cure male impotency, sound better and attract 12 times the babes, it is of course a good idea to get a 12 valve.

I am biased on this..

but for ease of bombing, working one and no worrying about a Vp 44 failure, id go with an automatic 12V if you wanna go fast, your only drawback is no more adjustable on the fly programers, only a vallet switch.

Many guys want a six speed for their trucks, so it might be up your alley to swap trannys with someone with a similar truck as well, AND you can BOMB the tranny and install it in your truck, might be more hassle tho, for both of you.

I do have a five speed and at times i hate it, but come pulling i love it

Look at things this way, your truck is still in the classified ads, why not just sell it, buy a 12V auto, cheaper on insurance, cheaper all around for the most part too, then just BOMB that? it be what id do, remove all ur BOMBs on your current ride and sell it stock...

Good luck

Tx

my best friend wants my truck with the modified 35, injectors and comp. so really all id be taking off is the stacks, turbo, and some other minor things.

it would cut my monthly payment in half, drop my insurance and i could get me a 12v ready to bomb heavily. fully built auto, injectors, DV's, pump work, and my 55 would be good for close to 500, add headwork to the mix and im over 500. im gonna talk to my buddy and see if he is 100% serious about buying it

You might be able to use the 55 on a 12v if you are going to bomb it. Plus the stacks are deffinently reusable.

12v with a built auto sounds like a plan.

it would take the perfect 24v with a built auto in it already to get me to buy another 24v.

i have a need for speed, but also need a truck. i want them both in one vehicle, some guys may criticize that, but when i go to the track on friday nights towing my buddy's race car, and i unhook the trailer and run a couple 13 second passes in a 7,000lbs truck, thats what its all about to me.

if i were to just go and buy a DTT billet trans for my truck what would be needed for the swap? kick down linkage? whole new steering column/dash bezel with auto selector?

my buddy isnt sure if he will buy mine now...and if he does it wont be til june. it would cost me alot of money to put it back to stock as i dont have many of the stock parts for it. and sadly i live in an area where a modded truck wont sell very quick as nobody wants a hotrod diesel

Probably better to try a different truck.

I hate rowing gears in bad traffic, but I still love my truck. NOt to common to find a 6-sp diesel shortbed 4x4.

Have you considered just running a DD clutch so you can launch in third without fear of burning it up? With a third gear launch, the sticks are pretty quick. Still not as quick as an auto, but it'd be cheaper than a built auto conversion, too...

ok so that being said...i go to a nice $2000 DD set up from southbend...how many times can i sit at the light and start slipping that thing for a high rev 3rd gear launch before im gonna need to replace it. and with the DD if i ever wanted to hook to a sled...how much abuse will even the best SBC DD take?
