he has informed me that using stock rims on my '98 ram 3500 dually it is impossiable to machine hub centric wheel spacers for my setup out of aluminum. he can make them but their gonna be out of steel and almost twice the weight. now i've seen lots of wheel spacers on ebay such as http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/WHEEL...QQcmdZViewItem

will these work? i'm looking to put on LT285/75r16 on the rig but i KNOW space is very limited without spacers. i've done alot of research about this topic online and found little. anyone have a 2nd gen ram dually with this size tire? and if so what spacers did you use? i would really like them to be hub centric but if thats to hard i can make lug centric to work i guess.

those are the exact spacers that i have on my truck, never had any problems out of them what so ever. Im running 265/75/16s on it and have plenty of room for a bigger tire. Next time i will probably go with a 285.

 

Wow, you have a 7400lbs truck and you are worried to gain 10lbs ?

Get the steel type, at least you know they wont fail while hauling or loading something heavy. Aluminum is good for some things, not known to be heavy duty.

 

I am curious? Why can't you have Aluminum? If Aluminum was so unsafe and couldn't handle the load, then 85 percent of the big rigs would be off the road, because most run aluminum wheels. I wouldn't worry about aluminum spacers at all. How thick of a spacer are you wanting to run? Enough room on your wheel studs?

 

I went and looked at spacers on ebay that you posted. You should not have a problem with those.

Check out the thickness of the aluminum wheels on a big rig vs. a steel wheel. My alcoas on my truck are atleast twice as thick the steel wheels. Going thicker allows for equal strength, but still nets a weight savings. Since the spacers are of equal thickness, the steel would have greater strength.

 

i'm looking to run 2" spacers to make room for the 285's. i want steel, dont get me wrong. i just cant justify spending $130 each plus shipping when i can get the ebay brand for half the cost. not really too concerned about the weight. money's a bit tight. so ebay seemed like a better option right now. i was just looking to get some opinions first. thanks guys.

 

By the way, Teddy Bear, you've got a good lookin truck there. just looking through your pics and noticed your front rims. Did you swap rear axle from SRW to Dualls? i like the rim choice too. how much space is between your rears with the two inch spacer and 265's?
