Drone---ARRGHH!!

Finally did it,

Took the muffler off my 4" system for the first time after installing it in September 03'. MAN, DOES IT SOUND WICKED!!!!

BUT, I have bad, bad drone at 1750-2050 rpm. Haven't tried header wrap, yet, nut I'm planning on it if I can find some. Anyone have any ideas or solutions on how to minimize drone WHEN TOWING? It's not really that bad when empty, but it is when towing.

I really want to hear my Cummins roar, but I tow way to much for too many miles to hear it roaring all the time, but with the muffler, all I get is a slight wimper or groul from the pipe.

Dare I say it, I may even try an Aeroturbine( ).

Thanks,
Chris

people have reported some good results by strapping or welding some angle iron the the straight sections of pipe. It changes the mass and there for the frequency at which it will resonate. let me know how it works if u try it.

Hey, signature600, I straight piped mine last November, I then header wraped from the cab back to behind cab, It was great around town, Now for the news, I towed a heavy load, around 9000lbs for a distance of 1000 miles and it about killed me, on the way back not to bad, so when I got home I installed a magnaflow in place of the straight pipe that I had took out when taking off the factory muff and cat. It is now a nice truck to use again and I cannot tell any difference in performance, just a tad more heat, but the wife and I can talk now at highway speeds with a loaded trailer. Hope this helps. Goodluck,, Rick

Thumbs up

Yep ... been there, done that. Ended up putting a Walker 21471 on. It's a straight thru, no baffles. Just put it on forward some, to decrease that looooong section of 4". Problemo gone.

You might try just putting a resanator on it you will maintain your straight thru and break up the harmonics.

know anywhere I can find a resonator, or anyone wanting to get rid of one. Thats alot cheaper than that aeroturbine(maybe).

thanks again,
Chris

There are plenty of members who are looking to get rid of them (sitting in garage collecting dust). If someone doesn't reply, post an ad in the "Items Wanted" section of the classifides.
