Installing it in the tank would be a step in the right direction.

^^^^^ funny

i put a straw on my 99 tank in the top of the tank near the tank module in lets say in a valley (the top of the tank is not flat). it is a billet aluminum push in fitting with a grommet to secure it and seal it. when i fill my tank to the top of the filler neck it leaks like a mo fo.

when i put the straw in my 01 i put it at the highest point on the tank, the fitting is close to the box but does not touch or leak a drop.

i would suggest useing a bulkhead type fitting with gaskets to be sure of no leaks (just like a fuel cell on a race car)

cut the suction tube at a angle and place it as close to the bottom of the tank as possible.

When I put in the draw straw in my dually, the OEM one comes out of the fuel tank module, and the aftermarket one pops in. Had to drill holes in the bottom of the module, but other than that it popped right in.

I got the airdog installed tonight it went together pretty easy, except for having to pull the bed by myself.
There was a flat spot on top of the tank and that is where I installed the draw straw, now I need to see were I can plumb in a fuel pressure gauge.

I personally went with a Hellmann fuel sump. Won't ever run into issues of sucking air when at 1/4 tank or lower and really makes your pump quiet down... FASS, AirDog, or Raptor. These are not my pictures of my set-up but I used them to help me decide on mine.
