I used a couple of small eyeglass sized screwdrivers.

Get one in there and pry one side of the snap ring out, use the other one to hold the snap ring out while you slide the other one around to get the rest of the ring out.

It took a couple tries, but finally it popped right out.

Do u want to save it or u gonna trash it? If your gonna trash it then pinch down on it and make one side come out and take some dykes and rip it out...the other way....I dont knwo....just work with it

I also could not get mine off. I guess some are just meant to stay on. Everyone said how they just got ou there with a couple of screwdrivers and popped it right out, but you cant even get under mine or move it at all.

i dont think u can get under there without chipping some of the metal just before the snap ring...i tried too and it didnt wanna go...that snap ring does not bidge!!! but if u dont care about taking a 2 mm chunk out of the metal in front of it then it shoudlnt be aproblem....for those of u who got it done does it make a difference?? or do u simply listen to the turbo more and think its louder cause ur focused on it...always wondered

The ring is cut at a 45 degree angle. If you can get the head of a small screwdriver in between the cut you can compress the spring and take it out without any hassle or damage at all.

On my 95 12v I used to have it took me about 15 mins to get it out of there. I just got 2 screwdrivers and went to town on it. Needless to say it was trashed when I got it out! I just kept praying I wouldn't jab the screwdriver through one of the fins on the compresser wheel! That would not be good!

yip 2 screwdrivers, got one under that 45 cut, pushed on the othe side with the other screwdriver then slightly twisted the screwdriver that was under the cut end. Kinda a pita. I do think its louder. Did that within the first 2 weeks I owned the truck

Well I finally got that little sucker outa' there. And my snap ring was in a groove...thats what caused all the trouble.I actually took a drill with a little bitty bit and put it between the housing and the snap ring and drove it real slow.Eventualy it caught the ring and pulled it out.Didn't mess up the housing either,or the ring in case I ever want to put it back for some sick twisted reason.(highly unlikley),Also got the BHAF and heatshield on it.(great template in the tech facts section btw). Not near as loud as the K/N filter on my 93' but it sounds real good.I think the K/N filters flow alot of air but thats not all they let through.I kinda like having the assurance of the BHAF's filtering capabilities.Anyway, thanks for all the ideas guys.
