Do you need the AFC housing if you run no plate

You need the housing, but not the arm.

But no AFC or plate would be a lot of smoke.

Couldn't you just have a cover made up and ditch the AFC if need be?

I don't see why not. It would be impossible to control the smoke...

I was thinking he wanted to just take it off...

If you've got a steady foot, smoke control is easy enough. Had it this way for 6 months, keep it smoke free 95% of the time, 2% would be the intentional smoke, the other 3% is an Oops moment.

On a more serious note, with stock DV's and injectors the smoke shouldn't be all that hard to control, might be touchy at times with a 5spd and a 215 with rather aggressive plate setting, but with my 180 pump and auto with no plate I gotta really cram into it to get alota smoke.

He is also running no plate... I'm also assuming someone with no plate is not real gentle on the pedal. I am also basing this with a 215 pump, since that is what I have.

I'm big on controlling the smoke. We don't need any more restrictions on our hobby.

Its the furthest thing from a mistake. Did the conversion 6 months ago.

Displacedtexan, I agree with the controlling of the smoke. Last thing I want to do is cause an accident because someone couldn't see after I took off. Hopefully people who run with no plate/AFC have enough self control to know there is an appropriate time and place for smoke, and populated public roads is not the place for it.

I didn't think, if ya meant if the AFC still (works) or does anything with no plate,..................

If that was the question yes it still controls low boost fuel (smoke control) without the plate as the arm still comes in contact with the lever to the best of my knowledge.

there's a couple different companys that sell afc block off plates for this application. As far as smoke goes without a plate. I don't have a plate or afc foot with my 5x16 injectors and the smoke is still controllable. Can't take off without a haze but smoke is controllable. Now if I want it to smoke.......oh buddy.
