do I need the special torx bit for 99 CTD
do I need to buy the torx bit from bluechip to get the stock VP44 pump cover off a 99 dodge to replace it with a new one or can I find the bits at checker auto?
Good luck finding one. I called every autoparts store in houston and every sears and home depot and lowes and any other place that sold tools and not a single one of them had one. Half of them had never even heard of a tamper proof torx bit.
go to a place that deals with electrical supplys only like the places that electricans get there supplys from not el chepo or lowes or any place like that they have tools for tamper proof torq screw drivers for some of the tamper proof light fixtures used in parks and public restrooms.
Try www.grainger.com or, www.mcmaster-carr.com. If it looks like a torx with a hole in the center it's a standard security screw bit. Either of the mentioned outfits should have them.
I bought a set made by Lisle off eBay. I think they were about $8 or so, but it's been a while so that may be wrong. I got them for work; we had a bunch of Compaq computers that required the tamper-proof Torx to open the case if the power supply failed with the lock in position.

My new pump had torx looking tamper proof screws holding the cover on.
They are 5 point not 6 like the torx are, my torx tamper proof will not fit! So I just tapped the wire. Your 99 should have regular torx!
I didn't use my cover, wanna buy it?
When I first came accross these in the shop , and needed to get the car back to the customer , I just took a small punch and knocked the center peace out and then used a regular torx , then bought more tools from snap on , this an endless bs thing with never beening able to use the tools you already have , it seems sometimes that you need to buy a new set off tools every 6mnths. then I got ripped off [ about 70,000 worth of tools ] and now do not have to keep up becouse I'm no longer working as a tech. I used to like working as a tech but with all the issues [ hazerdouse invierment , high cost of being a tech and the low pay compaired to time & money spent to do it ] I'm almost glad that there gone except for working on my own stuff.
