DIY Spray In Bedliner? How Much and What Brand?

Was thinking about trying to DIY a bedliner - the only product I've found is a roller-on material sold by Lowes (and it doesn't appear to be distributed to all stores either).. Does anyone have any info on such a product? Who has a good product, and what does it cost? Where can I find it? If I have to go and spend the $400 large for a spray-in job in my 8' box, I guess I will, but if I can save a few $$ here, I'd like to.. the bed is empty 98% percent of the time.....

Thanks in advance for any good info!

Well here is one brand I was looking @ http://www.herculiner.com/ But I am going to have mine Rhino lined because I don't have the time and don't want to mess with it. Plus there is a warrenty for as long as you own the truck and if you ever have a problem with the liner they will fix it free no questions asked. The place I am going to go to told me $450 for my 8 ft bed and over the rails. -Anthony

i used herculiner on my jeep trailer and i've used dupli color bed coating on my jeep. based on my experience with both, i'll pay the extra $ for a spray-in liner, probably lineX. although it was easy to apply, it didnt hold up well at all. i followed the directions to a "T", but neither were worth doing on a truck bed. i like the duplicolor for coating parts and it can be purchased at wal mart in a spray can. rhinolinings is good stuff, but a little more expensive than lineX, but that may depend on where you go. at work we have a couple trucks that have rhinolining done to them. looks great and is very durable. the black has faded a bit so pay a bit more for uv protection (it's gauranteed not to fade then, by the manufacturer). the diy liners seem good cuz they're cheap, but from my experience i'll pay a lot more to have professionally done.

I like you very seldon have anything in my truck bed (beer coolers mostly). I have a 30 foot gooseneck and a dump trailer I use to haul anything. I, also like you, could not see putting $400 in a liner. I went to Advance and got about ten cans of the spray in liner at about $8 a can. My son and I masked the truck off with old news paper and sprayed away. They are high pressure cans so you will definately need to mask off and wear old clothes.

Look in the members photos section under dieseldude4x4 album and there is a shot of the end product in there. It is not near as durable as the high dollar spray ins but you can easily touch it up by yourself if need be. I like it anyway. Let me know what you think.

Joel

I had mine sprayed with Line-x 2 weeks ago. Over the rail on 8ft bed was $465 after coupon special. In bed portion on 8 ft is $85 less. Short bed in bed portion is $365.

In and out in 2 hrs and 20 minutes. Line-X dries immediately so when all masking was off I was able to drive out into the rain.

Rinho Lining requires setup time before it can be exposed to weather. Something to think about this time of year.

Joel - looks good! How tough is it in terms of resisting scratches? How think did it dry? I'm thinking of stopping on the way home and getting some to try......

It is not as tough as the spray in but it works for me. The can said to let it dry 24 hours before putting anything in it. I like it becasue I can touch it up any time I need to.

From my personal experience I would go with Line-X. This is my second truck with it and have not had any disappointments yet.

Re:DIY Spray In Bedliner? How Much and What Brand?

I was going to go with a line-X liner. My friends have both kind and both of them have held up great, I don't know that one is any better then the other one though. I have never heard of a problem with either. But I don't have a line-x shop around here and a Rhino lines just opened up in town. And I would really like to give my business to the new shop ( they seem to work really hard for my business). -Anthony

I forgot one thing. DD4x4 I was wondering about your stacks and your bed liner. Are you running your stacks thorugh the bed or on the out side of the bed. If you are running them through the bed how has your bed liner held up to the heat. Rhino linings says the will fix my bed liner even if heat from stack melt the lining around the stacks. just wondering thanks -Anthony

Re:DIY Spray In Bedliner? How Much and What Brand?

The link below should take you right to my pic of how I did it. No problems around the stack area. They do not get really hot since there is so much area now for the exhaust to flow into after the three inch pipe turns into four inch under the bed.

They have Rhino and Linex in trucks here at work and I can't really tell a difference. Some of these boys abuse their truck beds pretty bad and it holds up. The spray in like I used will not take like shoveling stone out very well but I have a dump trailer for that. I just wanted something to look good.

Joel

http://www.dodge-diesel.org/yabbse/g...=18&pid=85

Family and friends are using X-liners. Price wise it was the best and you can use the bed after you leave. You can find a $20 coupon in most auto and truck publications. I also think it is put down thicker than your do it your self (I could be wrong).

KC

Coupons may be found for Line-X in such publications as Penny Saver and our local equivalent Gold Panner.
Here is another pic of my Line-X
