Dimmer Switch To Control TC Lockup

I'm thinking of putting a TC lockup switch in and I want to use an old floor mounted headlight dimmer switch to control it. Anybody ever try it or know why It wouldn't work?

Pretty slick idea, I sure would have never thought of that. I'm actually thinking of doing the TC lock up myself.

That'd be pretty freaking cool. Not to mention a lot easier to manipulate and control than a dash mounted one.

When the TC is locked, ALL the power is being put to the ground, unless you over power it and you slip the converter while its locked up With a lock up switch it allows you to force the converter to lock up earlier. However, on a stock transmission you can only lock the converter in 3rd and 4th gears. So if you're if you are at a complete stop and have the lockup switch on, the transmission will shift normally through first and second gears, and then as soon as it shifts the 3rd, the converter locks, and will stay locked until you hit the switch. Ive heard of some people gaining as much as a full second in there 1/4 mile time, just with the addition of a TC lockup switch.

No need to take it out of OD unless it is locking and unlocking as you are driving. I haul trailers for a living and unless its a really strong wind, i never take it out of OD.

Got to the SEARCH function and type in lockup or mystery switch. There are all kinds of threads on this already. Many even have the correct wiring diagrams.

Slick idea! Haven't seen a floor-mounted dimmer since my '69 Coronet left me.

Hopefully, all drivers of your truck will know what it's for. I can picture a friend asking you why the RPMs come down when he tries to dim the brights

No, no, no . It WILL lock in 2nd also with a stock VB, just not in 1st. It wont lock if the shifter is in the manual "2" position, but as long as you keep it in the "D"(drive") position, it will lock in 2nd if you hit the switch when you take off.

Yup. You hit the switch at a stop light and first gear is normal and then the instant that 2nd gear hits it locks and stays locked until you turn the switch off.
