Diesel Power Source Twins S400 Series?

Anyone running the diesel power twins? Looking at the S475 and D-tech62 Twin setup. Just wondering how they perform and reliability issues. Any inside info would be appreciated.

I have the twins kit from source. But, I used the hx-35/12 on top. It is great.
Not ever a problem.

How many miles so far? How many degrees have you gone down on EGT's. Also spool up and boost level your running.

I ran several turbo's before I woke up and realized what I was doing.

Stock---HY35/9 Spun it to 35-40. it got hotter all the way up to 40. 1300-1400*

Then a PDRHX40/16. A little too hard to spool but was good when it did.
I got the best mileage with this turbo!!! Tough to tow with, but I could with eyes on the pyro. It would spin to 40-45 psi. 1300 max but could see higher before it came alive.

Then a SPS62, It spooled a little sooner than the HX40 but didn't seem to spin up as agressive. This is hard to describe. Hated to tow with it as it would go to sleep at level speeds--even with 8,000 lbs at 55-65!! Then you had to get agressive with the throttle to wake it up. Imagine doing this at each overpass!! Again it would spin to 40-45. Slower than the HX40. It would go to 1600 before it woke up. This one scared me ALL the time.

Then just made a call to Source and talked.
Bought the kit with a S-400 ( I think) on the bottom and found a good Hx35/12 for the top. I opened up the wastegate and did some smoothing inside and wish I would of done more. Using a adjustable PSI set-up I set it to open about 35 and it has been great ever since! Pop-offs are set to 52 psi, I have seen it go to 55 then drop off to 52.
Head bolts are re-torqued about 15 higher than stock.
I normally run with the box off and can see 35-40 ( to keep smoke down).
Get the better boots with it, or you will buy them latter!

ONLY down side is oil filter access. But it is manageable.

Cost is nothing compaired to the damage that could of happened when a guy who worked for me found out how to get it when I was out of town, but that is another story!!!

I would guess somewhere between 60,000 and 75,000 miles on it.

That's good to hear. Sounds like a great twin setup. I plan on getting my head work done. O-ringed, 60lb valve springs and studs. I plan on running it up to 60.
So how much in EGT's have you dropped when towing?
So does source offer some upgrade boots or something? I take it the stocks ones aren't that great.
Anyway glad to hear that twin setup is working out.

No one else running diesel power source twins besides j-fox? Anyone else have any input with this company? I heard rumors that some of the turbo components are made by China. Or should I go with BD Super B Twins instead.

J fox might have gotten his twins from Source Automotive, not Diesel Power Source.....I can recommend Source automotives' twins, don't know about Diesel power source.
If you don't mind the cost, you could go BD. They make nice r700 and r850 twin kits.

Yeah I don't think I will be running the twins from diesel power source. Especially with chinese components. Either going to be source or BD for my twin kit.

Think either way BD or Source can't go wrong. Both look like quality engineering.

I know I'm a 3rd Gen, but I love my BD setup, very well engineered.

I would not shy away from Source Automotive either, the owner Rip, is a great guy. He involved himself on my behalf, when an injector deal went south...he did not have to, and I will not forget it. Jess

I would lean toward Source Automotive for twins. I have researched this to death! Every single Diesel Power Source twin setup I have seen is usually missing parts when shipped and has to be cobbled together to make it work! I have "heard" of similar issues with BD but have no first hand experience with them. In my opinion, this is not area to go cheap on. If you do you will be fighting loose bolts and exhaust leaks or worse.

I miss read the original post.

I do have the Source Automotive kit.
This is not the one you asked for!
It is a original, better kit.

Leaning towards Source Automotive now.
HTT 62/12 over S400's.
75HP injectors.
Based on Source's recommendations. My elevation I'm at and pulling grades is restricting how much HP and keeping my EGT's in check. Pull at 4500 to 8000ft.

Dps

Diesel Power Source turbos are not built in China. I can assure you nobody that has personally talked to the owner got that information from the owner. I actually did talk to the owner. On his D-tech turbos, his turbine housings are cast in house, his compressor housings are cast in house, and the rest is essentially Borg Warner/Schwiter components. The bottom turbo in his twins are as his web page states a Borg Warner 480. DPS twins are appear to be very comparable to II or the High tech's put together by Source Automotive. Good luck with which ever twin set up you choose, but rest assured DPS turbos are not china built. You need to call them and not base your decision from forum information.
