de-torque

i have an 01 with a comp box and bully dog step 4 injectors. on hard pulls off the line i am getting de-torqe. the computer senses more than 20 pounds of boost and a lot of fuel with not enough speed and cuts off the fuel until the speed is up enough. what is the best way to get rid of that. thanks Gary

The comp box should have a boost fooler. On my 99 it's a little brass elbow that you install to prevent the ECM from defueling. Not sure what is used on 01's.

The boost fooler is in the comp. The boost elbow increases the boost.

what yjpuller means IMHO ist the defueling to save the drivetrain. there's a box on the market called RAD (don't know the supplier) that will get rid of that- but you'll lose the tach when it's turned on AFAIK.

See this thread:

so there is no other way to get rid of the de-fueling without going to the BD RAD?

What about the MAD ECM? Doesn't it eliminate the torque management?

Chris

EDIT: I mean't CaTCHER ECM!

Chris, the only problem I could possibly see with the MAD ECM is that in slick conditions, it comes on incredibly strong and can be kind of dangerous. The BD-RAD is selectable on and off. The ECM is not.

Now, with that said, I'll be getting a MAD ECM.

yjpuller: What kind of transmission do you have in the truck? The testing of the RAD I read about said that with the boost launches they broke output shafts. DC engineers have thought about that stuff to make the drivetrain survive. The other question is whether you have the traction to be able to transfer more engine power to the ground. My truck is a beast for traction in the first 2 gears of the auto when there's boost. My personal consideration would be to avoid prolonged wheelspin in the first two gears.

Yeah, but with a Comp and BD4 injectors, he's already driving with a light foot in slick conditions, so it all depends on if you want the better response or not.

There are a lot of downfalls to the RAD, at least not one's that I would spend that kind of money to gain. If all you're doing is drag racing I would say it is the better option, but for the street, not for me.

It is up to him to decide what he's willing to give up to gain, though
