DD2s or 275s???

Hey, found a good deal on a set of DD2s and a good deal on 275s. I dont have alot of money to spend, and the DD2s are $100 more. Which set should I go with??? Would it better to got with the 2s early or just work up to em??? I dont have any tranny upgrades yet.

Thanks,

Sam

Re:DD2s or 275s???

What tranny do you have?

I have a 98 with nv4500 trans. I installed KatDiesel's old DD-III's and LOVE THEM. They put exactly what they are supposed to, at the wheel, on our local dyno... (295hp/587tq) this is a Mustang dyno, not a Dynojet either (mustang reads lower, more realistic numbers).

I run a homemade boost fooler to avoid the timing cut at high boost, it's good for a few extra HP near redline - didn't run the fooler during the above dyno pulls though!

Anyways, I used a manual boost controller to set about 22psi for the wastegate, and I get a light haze under full load. If you hammer it from idle, I get a small puff of visible black smoke, until RPMs and boost come up a bit - this is easily controlled by rolling into the throttle, the truck still is faster off the line with this method than it ever was stock...

I like the DD-IIIs - DD-IIs would smoke less, a little less power. With my setup, I just barely pull away from all the chipped powerstrokes here in Omaha. Lots of fun :-)

good luck!
-scott

I would have to say that if you found some DD2's for only $100 more than 275's then I would jump on it if you have a standard tranny. I would't risk it with a stock auto especially with the size tire you have.

Hello
I suggest that prior to installing DD III that you install gauges and that you upgrade your clutch/Auto trans.
If not be prepared for things to start coming apart.
See Ya

I dont have either but I am probably going to get DD2's over 275's. But first I have to wait for a new clutch since I cant afford to by both so close together. What I mean by this is that once I get the injectors the clutch will soon follow. ;D

Re:DD2s or 275s???

Thanks for the help!!! I have a 47RE auto. Or thats what Im told. All I know is that is an auto. What would be the best upgrades for the tranny, without getting too pricey ($1500 to $2000)???

For $2000, I'd say you could get a new torque converter and valve body and that would pretty much set you up transmission wise. I could be wrong though.

You may want to look at EDM's.

The most popular brands of trannie's are DTT, ATS, and Suncoast. There are many others to choose from though. Those are just the favorites.

Re:DD2s or 275s???

Same with me, I've got a set of EDM's on the way (my BD 2's are in the classifieds) A little more up front but you'll be happier down the road. As for your trans, the extra 80 hp you pick up is enough to toast your auto pretty quick especially if you add a fueling box later. The trans upgrade is big bucks but it will protect your investment (plus make your truck more fun to drive). Not sure if you said you have guages, if you don't get at least an EGT as the II's will get the temps up there in a hurry.
