converter lock up
converter lock up
I have a 97 dodge with an auto tranny it has an ats valve body and converter. When im in the throttle hard the converter will unlock. I was looking at the ats commander and bd towloc but there around 400$. Is there any other way to get lock up when you want it?
If you make it so it locks up right after the 2/3 shift, it's best for me at the track, locking it up any sooners just harsh on your hard parts like before the 2/3 shift or 1/2 if your valve body will allow you to.

if the valvebody has not been modified to allow first gear lockup which is bad you do not have fluid charge available until 2nd gear. one thing to add to the homemade lockup switch, install a 33 ohm resistor in the switch wire somewhere and you dont need to jump the trans relay and keeps the pcm from setting the codes that go with a jumpered relay.

I know for sure that the tranny has an ats valve body and converter. It will lock up around 35 if im just driving normal (with od off) but if i get on it it will unlock and that really hurts me if im racing. with od on it locks up around 50 driving normal but prob around 65 getting on it. Thats why i was checking on the ats commander they say it can get lock up down to 18mph and it stays locked up through the gears.
IMO a lock up switch is the only way to go. It can be done for about $10-$15 depending on how fancy of a switch you want. Once the tranny hits 3rd just flip the switch and it will stay locked no matter what. Just remember to unlock your converter when you come to stop because the converter WILL stay locked and the truck will just keep on goin. It also makes a funny noise too
