Clutch burnin up after 2 months

Well, now that I'm over 500 HP, my SB Con FE is letting go during launches and burnouts. Today, when I was having some fun in the rain, the clutch was letting go even more so. Why is it that clutches tend to slip more when there's low traction? Well anyway, has anyone heard anything about the new Valair Dual Disk clutches? I want to go with a dual disk, however I don't have the $$$$$ for a sb dual disk. Any suggestions?

Are you sure it is slipping? I thought the con fe is good up to a conservative 550 hp. Low traction situation may equal tire spin.

I did too, I defnitely smelled burnt clutch today. I'll find out for sure next week at the Outer Banks when I run at the strip. If the clutch is slippin, it will definitely do it on a 4wd boosted launch.

I hope to hit around 525 HP with the new turbo, but now you have me nervous to run my FE hard. Although I have punished it pretty hard I ahve never done a 4x4 launch with it nor do I ever plan to. I would rather have bought a dual disc but I need something the wife can drive too.

My fe held 678hp on the dyno. What they don't like is speed shifting. If you drag race and do 4wd boosted launches, you'll need a DD.

Yeah, it only slips when I dump the clutch and when racing. Guess I'll have to milk some time on it till I save for a DD. Hopefully the Valair DD will be a good setup since it is only like 1200.

You get what you pay for... If you already have an SBC, why not go to the source for the replacement??

Have you thought of sweet talking SB into an upgrade and pay the difference or something like that? You've only had it for 2 months?

I was told the FE does not like alot of slippage on the start(like 3rd gear starts) and speed shifting. As far as pulling a load, or dynoing, they work extremely well. I could roll into mine hard in 6th gear from 1500 rpm and it would hold my 600hp daily drive set up without a problem.

Call Peter directly. He'll work well with you on upgrading.

Well, I wouldn't say all that. Valair makes good clutches, haven't heard bad things about them at all. My buddy is running their version of my clutch with the same HP, he doesn't slip when launching in 3rd nor is having the problems I have. I can get one of their Dual Disks,Hydraulic Upgrade, and billet input for about the same price as SB charges for just the clutch. I'll see what SB says about the upgrade though.

Spoken like someone who hasn't looked hard enough to find bad things about them....

The evidence it out there if a person really wants to find it.
