Question Which clutch and Twins

My clutch is slipping with the bit of power I've added so its time for a new one. I'm aiming at having the truck around the 600 hp range by the end of the summer. I went to PDR last week to get some quotes... they said I should install the Southbend Dual Disc either 600 or 650 hp clutch. I went to BD's dyno days today... and they told me the Southbend single rated at 550 would be plenty strong enough to hold 600 hp and that I shouldn't get more clutch than I need. There's a huge difference in price... $2000 installed compared to just over $3000. So what do you guys think?? Are they right and I should go with the smaller clutch.... or spend the extra money and go with the bigger one?
Also.... which twins do you guys think would be better... BD's compound s300's or PDR's HX40-TW, HT3B/26 combo?

I ran a Luk pro gold series [13"] in my truck & it held great for 40k. I recently upgraded to a Southbend Dual Disc 3250 12CB & all I can say is WOW what a clutch. It is smooth & nice "stock" pedal feel. It is rated at 600hp....Peter from SB told me that they are made to last 500k miles. I would buy this clutch! Call Advanced Diesel Technology 304-864-3399 ask for Doug.....tell him that Jamie said to call. He gave me the best price that I have seen on the SB clutches.

The clutch depends on how you drive. The DD can handle more abuse for sure. I love my SB FE(550hp rated) single disc. It shifts well and has held all the way up to my current hp level. The two sets of twins are quite a bit different. The BD twins are great daily drivers that can make pretty good top end power. The PDR twins make great top end power and are pretty good daily drivers. If you are interested in a used 550hp rated clutch that has about 8k miles on it, I'm taking mine out to put in a DD.

My truck will be a daily driver ... and i drive with a heavy foot. So i'd probably want the pair that spooled up fast and gave good top end... sounds like it might be the BD one over the PDR?

How much were you looking at askin for the clutch Ron?

Your clutch needs will depend on your planned usage. DD clutches actually shift a little slower if you are into heavy drag racing. They are much better off the line as you can throw down some serious boosted launches but then you will want a stronger input shaft to handle all that shock loading. The single disks are awesome for the street and probably give you better launches in 2wd since they do slip a little instead of smoking the tires. If you want to be a heavy/ competitive sled puller... what manuals are best for.... you will want a double disk from Haisley. If you tow a lot in traffic and through town, don't get a full feramic/ ceramic or you will chatter your doors off every time you start up. That said, there is no ofe= organic/ceramic clutch rated for 600 hp anyway. You might be able to find someone like Dan @ Valair who will make you a custom OFE with like a 4500# plate load and upgraded hydraulics to give you less chatter at startup and still hold tons of torque. Also, Kevlar/Feramic clutches hold more than OFE and are less chattery than full feramic... kind of a happy medium. I'm not sure if SouthBend will make custom clutches, Haisley will but it will cost you. Valair is your best penny pincher company out there.
