I have had my AFE filter on the truck for about 40,000 miles and have not cleaned it due too my filterminder not showing any type of problem....i know my filter minder works, i tested it.

I looked at the filter and she is almost black from gravel roads, grasshoppers, bees, and any other large insect. Is it worth cleaning it if the filter minder is showing me that it is fine? I can still see light through it, quite a bit actually.

so should i clean it or run it untill the filter minder actually moves?
and is this normal to get 40,000+ miles on this type of filter without cleaning?

BTW, this is not a drop-in unit, it is the 8" double cone filter that comes with the stage 2 AFE kit.

 

clean it. I clean mine every time i change oil

 

man i hate this filter.....used up the whole bottle of oil in the kit....and this "monster" of a filter has soaked it all up(no puddles no darker areas, and its only 75% done!!! I am going too throw this thing in the garbage and buy a new one....just saves me the frustrations!!

 

You could always soak it in dish detergent. Did that w/ mine when I ran out of the cleaning solution.

 

thats way too often. Filters actually filter better when slightly to moderately dirty. Most guys clean their once a year give or take.

ramtd02, are you SURE you arent putting too much oil on there?? Those are pretty sizeable bottles of oil

 

Well when the filter came new the bag it was in had oil on the bag, and the filter was pretty oily......i put this sucker in a bag too see if i could get it too imitate the "like new" thing....and nothing, not a drop of oil made it too the bag.....that sucker soaked it up big time!!! I think this would have been much easier had the bottle of oil been the aerosol bottle!
