chips vs injectors

Hey i have a 2001 dodge with afe intake and 4" exaust with the edge ez chip. I am woundering if i should put a bigger chip or go with injectors? i have a auto tranny but thats going to be replaced in the next few weeks with one that is built for 450-500hp. my injectoin pump is still under warrenty so i dont really want to tapp it. would i see the same results with injectors as i would with the chip? or should i do a chip and mild injectors? help point me int he right direction. I will be towing from time to time. only about 5000lb.

Injectors wont do anything with out a chip to fool the pcm/ecm

you need to chip it first

You can always stack a Smarty with your EZ.

I think that injectors and chips give you different kinds of power. At least that is how I felt it. I added Mach1.6 first and drove on them for a while without any chips. The feeling was as if the truck has lost some weight. It would not zip or jump but would pull up hills without any effort, and not slow down on uphills where it used to.
When I added a chip it felt as of the accelerator had all of the range compressed to the first half inch of travel. The truck because jumpy, it was real easy to accelerate rapidly and it was easy to make smoke. Boost fooling that the chip has is important to have if you are going to push the setup.
Therefore, I like the injectors for the robust, all-across-the-range power. The chip is more for the fun, quick acceleration type thing. And with EZ you already have boost fooling.

I feel the same as PaulDaisy, I installed a set of Rv275's and truck just seemed to have more torque thru out the power band. Later I added a chip.

I'd say 80 hp injectors, still get decent millage and lots of power. I started with an edge ez with intake and exhuast then got the 80hp injectors and noticed a big difference. Don't have bad EGT problems when towing after i put in the injectors I also blow decent smoke. You can also add a resistor to your edge ez to add some more power out it. I just got a good deal on a super chips tuner and like it even thought its not the tuner.

I always thought that "chips" were for dipping, found in cookies or what you avoided when going through the pasture!

Sorry I couldn't resist!

I eventually went bigger, however the EZ and RV275's were a great all around combo.

get a Smarty.. the regular one. As for the injectors, if you get the FASS or something like it, that will save the VP. The Fass will get you mileage, and I like the smarty because it seems you can do more than with the edge.

This is one of the most common questions we get and I can tell you, there is no clear answer.

First off, you said you already have an EZ and you don't want to tap the pump wire because of pump warranty. Be advised, you have already voided the pump warranty with the EZ, but that part is up to you.

If you are looking for 400+ Hp, just add some 150HP injectors. The EZ can be adjusted somewhat for low boost fueling and will still burn pretty clean, but you will get some smoke when lugging or possible in hot weather or at altitude. If you want a smaller injector, that's fine, but you will not make any more power with any combination of non wire tap boxes.

If you plan on making 450-500 someday, then yes, a bit smaller stick now and an adjustable box would be advised. Leave the pump wire disconnected, and you'll make exactly the same power as the EZ. This will leave room to grow later in addition to all the levels of control and programming you are looking for.

So the questions that has to be asked are, how much peak power do you want to make? How much power do you want to daily drive on? What is your altitude? What is the complete setup of the truck and what mods are planned? Is smoke a factor? And the list goes on.

Obviously, your answers will lead the required list of parts along as well. Aftermarket fuel pumps, turbo(s), trans/ clutch and other mods may be required to achieve your end use goals.

Do lots of research before pulling the trigger. I know guys that have gone through half a dozen sets of injectors as they didn't plan it out.
