Chevy steering box swap

I've read that a 88 up model Chevy steering box will fit on our Dodges. Is this true? Chevy steering boxes seem to last longer and steer better.

Would it be a direct bolt on or modified fit?

Interesting, I don't have a clue if it will fit or not but I am posting as to not lose track of the thread.

The Saginaw housing for Dodge has mounting ears on the left side, GM truck version is on the right side, Vans are left side but pitman shaft is not identical, so would require custom pitman arm.

Ford also used a version

Gm hd versions use a double seal setup on the pitman shaft, have two available ratios depending on use, ld versions use a single seal, single ratio - Dodge versions all use the single seal setup, but have two available ratios.

Gm units rarely leak out the pitman seals, Dodge units appear to leak annually

I just machined a brass bushing for my steering box that replaced the needle bearings on the sector shaft. that truck drives about 1000% better than it has in as long as I can remember. I didn't have my camera so I couldn't take pics sorry guys.

This brings up a question I've been wondering about for quite some time. Can a very mechanically inclined person rebuild steering boxs? and where can a person get parts? Smoke pedal, if you could post the measurements for that bushing so I could have 1 made if I decide to rebuild my own box I.D.,O.D. and length would be awsome. Thanks

These steering boxes are not hard to dis-assemble and re- assemble , you don't really need any special tools either , save for a spanner wrench. Manuals for most steering boxes can be found online , just google them, our trucks use a saginaw box , but i don't know what model.
