CB Antenna Mounting

I am getting ready to buy my new CB and antenna set up, my POS 2 foot antenna just isnt enough I have an aluminum tool box and trying to figure out the best way to mount it. Anyone ever use a magnet mount before? How well does it work? Also, I have to park in a parking garage daily so I am a little worried about ripping the antenna off, anyway I can overcome this? I dont want a 20' whip or anything, just something to run my redneck radar with.

Thanks

Travis

I like having mine on 1 (or both) of my mirrors. The mouts are simple and they hold well, and IMO it looks kinda cool.

I put my 4' antennas (1 for CB, 1 for scanner) on the sides of my tool box.
I can't get in parking garages with 'em unless I take 'em off though.

Check out Firestik, they have some quick disconnects that I am looking at getting. They should make it quick and easy to uninstall/re-install antennas.

I think it is firestick that also makes one for dodge ram specific that mounts essentially where the fm antenna goes. It uses one of the bolts that holds the fender on. I have mine on the drivers side. The mount bolts to an existing bolt on the fender under the hood say 6 inches or so from the rear. It comes out from under the hood and is pretty good. Mine has been there and working for 6 years now no problems.

Yes, Firestik is the company that makes the Ram fender mounts...

duel antennas look cool but actually interfear with each other. Fire stick makes a few nice stainless mounts. fender mount and diffrent stake hole mounts. I run a offset stake hole mount and a 4' k40 super flex on both trucks. 4' seems a good hight however the best setup really is else where. fiberglass antennas dont tune as well and the ground plane where I have it isnt real good but it depends on how series you want to get.

Well I park in a parking garage every day and really dont want to have to take it off everyday. Any other ideas? what about mounting it on the rear bumper and the top of the antenna is level with the hood?

you always want like a min of 50% of the antenna above the roof of your vehical I think, and if any of the antenna is below the roof you want a top loaded antenna. I think anyway.

Good advice Captain
Check out Firestik's website. They have an excellent FAQ and tech help section (more than you'll ever want to know).
For co-phased antennas, you need the top 2/3 of each antenna to "see" each other (nuthin' between 'em). One is usually sufficient (I have one for my scanner, 1 for my CB).

Is it cold up there Captain?
Talked to my folks in Erie county today and the old man said they "had snow up the " and was about 3 degrees,

ive got a 2.5 foot cell look alike antenna on my pickup, works awsome will go a mile in the hills and further on the flats mounts on the back window behind my headache rack, you can't see it and it doesn't hit things. its by far the best antenna that i have ever had way better than the firesticks or wilsons that i have had in the past.
