carter aftermarket lift pump

i found a carter external electric pump at summit that puts out 20 psi @100gph. should this work good to put inline with the lift pump that is on allready? the original lift pump is a carter anyway, should i trust carter again or try something else. i dont want to spend the money for fass right now. i have seen some recomendations for fuel line upgrades, what is that just larger diameter lines or what??

The BD pump is supposed to be nice. I think it's a pusher pump.

If it is the Carter 4601 HP, it is nearly identical to the OEM Carter LP with a few exceptions. The OEM has metric fuel fittings where as the 4601 has 3/8" NPT fittings, there is a fine filter screen inside the OEM and the 4601 has stud electrical terminals where as the OEM has a weather-tight connector. All these differences can be overcome and many people have done the swap but there is no actual benefit to the 4601 since it is mechanically identical.....since some Cummins shops sell the OEM Carter for nearly the same price as the 4601, I don't see the benefit to going through the extra work, abiet minor, to bother with the 4601 - especially if it is a temporary fix. I got my OEM Carter through an aftermarket shop directly from Federal Mogul for nearly the same cost as a 4601.

I have had great success with the OEM LP at my HP level with the addition of a Scotty Smartfuel. Without the Smartfuel, LP performance and durability is marginal at best.

My 4601HP.. (Black Carter..) lasted about one week... Luckfully I still hadn't removed the stock pump... I put the HP back by the tank...
If you stack the pumps.. (pusher pump) you will add the pressure of each for your total.. ( if 12psi from stock.. 12 from pusher.. U will have about 24psi at the VP.) I ran the HP alone...
Good Luck...

I'm running the Bully Dog fuel management system from Jegs and get 22psi @ idle and draw it down to 15WOT.
the pump is a Holley Blue, running through my stock LP which i think is still working.

How do you wire the second pump up, without the factory harness? I still have my stock lp in my toolbox, if I hook the two together and double my output psi I'll be in the 4-5 psi range.

After having to replace both pumps last month I installed a BD pusher pump (carter) and fuel pressure gauge. Pressure at idle is 26lbs and pulling a 7,000 lb load up a steep hill drops it down to 15lbs wot.https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...e=1&p=1005376#

I should have went for the walbro pump setup.. it would have been a little cheaper.. I like the design of the walbro pump a little better.. I don't know what type of pump it is.. vane.. G-Rotor... Its going to be two week before I get the pump..

My carter 4601HP on the frame with 6AN or bigger from tank thru pump all the way to the VP44 has lasted 11 months now and never had a problem. About 10,000 miles. 13psi at idle and 11-12 cruising. I have to work hard to pull it down to 10. I'm fairly happy with it, but I did buy a backup spare just in case.

I really like the Carter HP.. easy install.. and I was able to run it off the stock wiring without a relay.. pressure was good.. for about 5-6 days... it was at 3psi at idle on the 7th day... I removed the plastic line coming right out of the tank.. went to 3/8 hose.. to the pump.. and then back to the steel line.. they just bypassed the stock LP... easy, clean.. just didn't last... I hope the Holley will....
