Ok...its been long enough and i have decided i need some subs in my truck. i am thinking about getting the box pictured below. It goes under the rear seat and holds two 10" subs. I dont want something that will wake all the neighboors up, but i definatly want to feel it when its on.

what amp and subs should i get? i dont know alot about them. i had a bandpass box in the back seat of my F150, but it took up the whole **** seat. also i dont want to break the bank here, but want something quality.

the box is ~$100 with shipping. i thought about just building my own but after thinking of how much it would cost for all the materials it seems smarter to just buy this.

any help?

well, I have the thunderform box by mtx, it comes with tens, and you can even buy it with its own amp, I put in a Rockford Fosgate amp, wired in mono that tested on the bench at over 1200 watts at 1 ohm, the resistance on the subs in mono. others here like the probox very much, I think you can get that one with 12" subs, the mtx is around 300 bux with the tens, not sure on the price of the probox. as for sound, the mtx's sound great in the truck, and keep the sound inside so you can hear/ feal it, but does not tell the world you are comin down the block.

in my regular cab truck, i took out the middle console and build my own sub box. it holds one 12 that hits down. Its an alpine type R. its powered by a alpine 400 w (i think) mono amp. i didnt want anything too extreme either, so this worked out real well.

i like the alpine equiptment. im also running their type r speakers in my truck.

MTX, Rockford Fosgate, JBL, etc. are all pretty much the same and are good quality. I'm personally an Infinity fan. I'm running 1 10" Infinity Kappa sub w/ a 600 watt Kenwood amp. Before I had 2 12" MTX Thunder 5000 subs with a Boss 1000 watt amp. Boss amps are pretty good quality and can be bought for relatively cheap off of ebay. I've had two of them with no problems. I would try to stay away from refurbished though, for any electrical device.

looked all over the probox site. they look pretty cool but i couldn't find one for my truck. it says 02' and up and mines an 02' but the picture is of one in a new body style truck. the only reason i don't wanna put a system in mine is i like having under seat storage. but i'll probably end up doin it anyways.

i have run into that same problem with lots of stuff. my solution is to tell everyone its a 2001 unless i am sure they are competent enough to realize that there are split years...

Not trying to hi-jack the post bd, but do you have any pics of the console you built?
I am in the midst of starting that project and was looking for ideas to keep it stealth

Hey I make custom boxes all the time and since spring is here I figure I'm gonna make a nice underseat box for the back seat.

It's a tight squeeze but i'm gonna try to get two 12" rockford fosgate's under there. I'll post up some pics of my progress as it comes a long and if anyone wants one, or some dimensions I can be of some assistance

which way are you gonna face them? forward firing will work with just lifting the seat a little

Good luck finding a 12" sub that will sound good in that small of an air space. I would recommend 1/2" MDF, 3/4" takes too much interior space. It is tough to make anything that will much more than .5sqft per sub.

I had this setup in my ollld single cab ford and it sounded great. It just a matter of how you design the box. If nothing else i'll make it a single 12"
Whatever it takes to make it sound good, even if it takes a few tries...

Pretty nice box for the money. PM me once you get it in and let me know how you like it.

Mystery:
The reason I know how tough it is to make a large enough box (and why NOT to make it out of 3/4" MDF) is I always made my own boxes too. So I had plenty of MDF laying around. I spent 8 hrs one nice day building a sweet box, forward facing 10's and all. Got them all done, and the drivers wouldn't fit So I went inside, logged on and ordered one up. I was very frustrated. Happy I did, as I've been pleased with the performance, but I spent a lot of research time finding inexpensive subs that liked the air space in that box.

Let us know how your fab efforts pan out, and take some pics!!!
