C.B Antennae mounting

Still haven't got around to rigging up my Dale Earenhardt Cobra 29

This weekend?? We'll see.

I'm wondering if I can mount the dual 4' fibreglass whips by drilling the front rail of the box??

As in seperate the studs and mount the right through the front box edge???

This would leave all of my box area unobtsructed and the mounts wouldn't get squashed by round bales etc.

Anyone know why this wouldn't work??

I mounted mine to the front edge of the bed. I know a couple of people with 4 footers going to 3 footers (like me) because they hit on to many things.

Blue, did you mount right through that front rail like I mentioned or did you use another mounting setup?? Do the whips hit your cab mounted that close??

I drilled the front of the toolbox, and mounted right to it. Works like a champ, but I went to a 2' antenna so I could still get rig in the garage.

I did mine like this:

Looks pretty good and it doesn't hit the cab, but like BigBlue said, I'm going to 3 ft. antennas because my 4 footers keep me from being able to pull into the carport at my new house. Also, I think the 3 footers will look better on my truck. I'm also thinking about rotating the brackets 180 degrees so that the short part of the "L" shape is on top because currently, when the antennas hit something, there's enough leverage on that 90 degree bend in the bracket to bend it back some and make that antenna ride at an angle. It bends back pretty easily but I'd rather have it not bend at all.

Oh, and just for grins:

cb antennae mounting

For better reception use 2 stainless steel Firestik hood mounts.
