Brake Controllers

I currently have a Prodigy P2 in my Ford that is going to be sold once my Dodge is setup the way I want it. I am debating between just pulling the P2 out of the old truck and putting it in the Dodge or is it worth the money to buy the newer Prodigy P3. I can't really tell what the differences are or if it's worth the ~130$ to buy the P3. Can the P3 be mounted in any position like the P2? Anybody have any experience with these two? Thanks

I drive 2 trucks that both have p3's in them and they work great. I cannot compare it to the p2 as I have never used one.

How much weight do you pull and how often? I installed a MaxBrake controller in my truck this spring and I'll never use a different one again. Yes, it's expensive, but come on--it's your brakes you're talking about. If you can afford a set of upgraded injectors, you can afford a top-end controller like the MaxBrake.

Seriously, it makes a huge difference.

I pull a 22' enclosed bumper pull trailer once or twice a week that weighs 6-7k regularly. Sometimes some lighter stuff more often.

Agree with Busted Wrench. I installed a Maxbrake to replace my previous Jordan unit a few months ago and what a difference.

I thought going from a P2 to the Jordan was a huge improvement but guess next time I'll have to try a MaxBrake.

While the improvement from my old inertia type controller to the Jordan was a huge difference the Maxbrake while not as big of a difference is definitely better. Smooth as silk. I would not have changed my Jordan but after a couple of panic stops due to moronic drivers I just couldn't seem to keep the cable adjusted correctly. I don't know if those panic stops stretched the cable or what but it always seemed to need adjustment after that. Prior to that it had never been a problem at all and I was quite happy with it. And if Jordan was still around I probably would have called them to see if it was fixable.

I've ran several different inertia controllers. Put a BrakeSmart in my last truck and swapped it to the new one now. Best brake controller I've ever used. Smoother than any other controller I've tried and I've never had to adjust it, even going from my 5k travel trailer to a 20k gooseneck. Basically the same as the MaxBrake I believe. Ties in to the pickup's hydraulics.

I had a POS Husky controller in my truck and replaced it with a Maxbrake before the towing season this year and it made a night and day difference when braking. I tow a 10000lb 5th wheel up and down mountains living in Utah.

the maxbrake and the smartbrake are the only good controllers on the market. they are safer and truly proportional. all of the others are junk by comparison

I agree.
I've dissected the older inertia type controllers.
Talk about ancient technology with swinging ball bearings.
