Angry borrowed G-TECH/Pro NOT HAPPY

well stopped at a friends today, he was out washing his drag car, asked him if he wanted to go for a ride, he jumped in, but not before getting his little G-TECH/Pro gizmo. well lets try this baby out, i have a stock truck with a superchips tuner, set on HI PERF which gives the truck lots more. well i mustered up a whoppin 17.12 @ 86MPH, which was fine until i borrowed that little gizmo and went to my friends to work on the race car. he has an 02 duramax chev, well had to try his out with it, he has the superchip also, on HI PERF I GOT SMOKED!!!! he ran a 15.35 @91MPH so we switched his to stock and he pulles a 17.32. this really upsets me. now i'm gonna have to put up with this crap for a LONG LONG time.

Hmm, well a friend of mine bought one of those... then he sold it after realzing how inaccurate it was. While it may be true his is faster I wouldn't trust those numbers very much.

I guess if it really bothers you, you could go buy some more mods. Injectors?

while the numbers may not be bang on with what you'd run at the track , the difference between the 2 trucks measured by the same g-tech would be accurate

Put 200,000 miles on both trucks, then re-test.

Would the Duramax last that long to allow another test?

First,

DIfferent Base HP numbers, second, Different HP numbers for the tuners.

The Superchip for your Dodge will only add about 40HP at the wheels. An Edge EZ would add 65RWHP.

I'm not sure what the HP rating for the Duramax is, but the hypertech tuner pulls out 85RWHP from the D-max.

Your truck starts at 245 HP. Dyno's ~215RWHP + 40HP = 255RWHP
D-Max starts at 300HP Dyno's ~240RWHP + 85HP = 325RWHP

Add the fact that the Duramax (even in the heaviest trim) will be atleast 800Lbs lighter. It could be as much as 2,000Lbs lighter.

Lighter truck, with more HP equals More HP per Pound.
HP per pound will determine how fast the vehicle is.

A 245HP Ricer at 2,500 Lbs will whoop your 7,500 400HP truck...

Trannies also make a big difference. The D-Max has 5 speeds, and locks up from 2nd gear on at WOT.

so what you're saying is he needs roughly 350-375 RWhp to compete

sounds to me like a comp and a set of dd2's are in order

Nah, wait till you got about 450000 on both of them and then re-test with him. Oops, I forgot, we're talking dmax here, nevermind. 200000 is just starting to run real well on the little six. My sons truck is a 94 with near 230000 and it still lays down 360 and 750. We used it to pull mine to Indiana after I melted a piston.

thats really wierd that he thought it was inacurate. i run mine all the time, heck i even graph out the results to see how different launches compare. when i was at the track in spokane i made 5 passes and i recored all of them with the g-tech also. the g-tech was ithin .01 and 2mph on every run. i find that the hp is off but the et part of it is right on.

Maybe the new version that is being mentioned here is much better? He runs the local drag strips all the time, occasional dyno runs, and said it wasn't a very good estimate so he got rid of it.

Lol, did I steal your saying? I knew I got it from DTR somewhere but never knew anyone had it in their sig, none the less isn't it so true.... If it isn't broken fix it until it is!

the new one is very cool it does 0-60mph,60' times, 330' times, 1/8 mile et and mph, 1/4 mile et and mph. it also allows you to download the runs into your computer and will graph a overlay up to 4 different runs. it can be seen here.

ps i have had that in my signature for about 3 years, but it is still very true!!

It seems like it did ask for weight, otherwise I can't see how it'd make any projections. I don't recall many details about the whole thing, just he didn't think it compared well with his track times or dyno readings so he sold it.

Sorry, I'll remove it if you want. I read it in some thread a while back, somebody was talking about being addicted to modding and they said that, I laughed for a while then adopted it.

the one i am using you can add weight to and it will figure out your RWHP. i didnt bother with that. another friend has one and he owns a dreaded FURD and he checked his and went faster than mine too. so i went to the race track today and all i heard was hows it goin pokey, and whats up sluggo, it wasnt fun and its not gonna get much better anytime soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
