Mine came off, and i am not worried about it. I dont thinky ou can buy a replacement anywhere for cheap. Just go ahead and pull it on off if it is ripped bad, or it may get caught between the rod, and the solenoid, and make it not work right. I have been running without mine, and so has my uncle for a while now with no problems. As long as it doesent start rusting/getting bound up it should be fine. It moves in and out enough, it shouldnt build up rust, but if it does, i will just pull it out and sand paper it.

Without the boot or with a torn one crud and rust will eventually cause the solenoid to hang up. You can buy one here www.fostertruck.com or do what I do and use a section of 1.75" bicycle inner-tube with two cable ties.
Works just as well as the stocker and lasts longer too.

Ditto!

I agree totally with Bill as I did the same thing this past summer and it's worked great. And a lot cheaper too.
