Boost and Injectors
Boost and Injectors
I just installed a set of 275RV injectors, and would like to know if I need to add a boost fooler and set the boost up to around 28psi. ??? And I would like to thank you guys for all the info. on this site it made my install easy and fast, first time for installing injectors on a diesel and it took 1hr an 20min.I know this is just the start of more things to come. ;D
Re:Boost and Injectors
Sounds like you need what is refered to on here as a "boost elbow". It's really a fitting with an orifice in it that restricts the flow in the waste gate sampling port. It also has a vent hole (orifice) that is vented to atmosphere. Edge products includes one with their EZ box. I'm kind of surprized that BD doesn't include one with their box. With my Edge EZ and the RV275's, I'm getting around 36 - 38 PSI of boost. The turbo really screams at that pressure ;D. I believe there is a company that is making an adjustable "boost elbow". Maybe somone will come up with a name. As DRD said, the BD box should have a boost fooler already there so as not to set a code from overboost. The extra boost will make a BIG difference. 8)
Re:Boost and Injectors
Yes I know the newer boxes come with a boost fooler but this is a very early box did not come with one.But do I need to add one are is leaving the boost set at 20psi ok.Is the truck going to run better if the boost is set higher.
Re:Boost and Injectors
I'd either update to a newer box, or call Gordon @ Practical Solutions. Member "Monroe Diesel" just installed one on his '02.

IMHO, you really need the add'l. boost for egt relief. And, as an added bonus, it will run better. ;D

Re:Boost and Injectors
The WG limits the amount of boost the turbo will generate. This does a few things for you. First, it keeps your turbo from spinning into oblivion and exploding. Second, it allows exhaust to bypass the turbine it high rpm, which relieves some of the "choking" effect that a non-WG setup usually has.
I would NOT recommend completely disabling the WG unless you have very tame fueling levels-- like 275 and a timing box, and that's it. Any more and you can nuke the turbo.

Re:Boost and Injectors
So it is safe to say that I can drop the wastegate control and not have to worry about over boosting the motor or blowing up the turbo.Does anyone know the resistance value of the mapp sensor at 21psi so I can make my own boost fooler.
Re:Boost and Injectors
We've ran stock turbo's up to 40 psi and put thousands of miles on the trucks and not had any problems. I dont understand this fear of disabiling it. Unless your over 375HP to the rear wheels you will be fine.

I guess the fear on my end comes from my ignorance and not wanting to hurt anything. Why don't folks like Edge Products just provide a plug for the port? I'm not trying to challleng you or anything, I just want to learn how this stuff works and the best way to do that is to show my ignorance

Re:Boost and Injectors
they dont include a plug to protect themselves from people trying to hold them liable for turbo failures. The shop i work at has probably installed at least 300 ez's or comps if not more and we have bags full of these boost elbows because they just aren't needed when your running a fairly mild setup. granted, big injectors and a comp box will start to push the limits of your stock turbo. so eventually an upgrade will be necessary. I do know that when we put HX-40's or HX-35 hybrids usually we will put a 40psi wastegate on them. I understand your caution though. Theres nothing worse then breaking something.
