Boost

Just a quick question. Is the turnbuckle on this turbo set at the factory so that the waste gate can't close all the way?

After installing my boost fooler I only gained 4lbs boost. Instead of messing with the orificed elbow I just plugged the hole in the turbo. Only gained another 1lb (maybe). Tried wiring the gate closed and it didn't change anyhting. My first thought was the turnbuckle was set to hold the gate open.

Pretty sure they didn't come from the factory with a turnbuckle on them.

If your's has a turnbuckle, did you buy the truck used?
Perhaps they had a box or injectors in it at one time.

Yes I bought it used. The actuator looks factory installed. Looking at the turbo, facing the radiator, it is mounted about 4 oclock with a line going to an elbow (non orificed) tapped into the turbo housing.

Maybe I'm using the wrong terminology I was calling the rod attached to the gate the turnbuckle.

Ok, that sounds like the stock setup.

Pretty sure they aren't set up to keep the wastegate from closing all the way.
The adjustable (so to speak) end is just the fine tuning to set it to open around 21psi.

I guess you need to add some more fuel to get the boost up.

sound right to me. You need more sweet, sweet black smoke to get the boost up.

There is something else going on then. Maybe even with the fooler I'm still defueling. When I take off the black smoke rolls, enough to give unsuspecting cars next to me the cummins blessing . I mean the black smoke rolls out thick.
