Boost?

Ok, being a newbie when it comes to turbos and such, I here people talking about boost pressure here. Now, I know the more boost you make, the more power you make, right? I just put guages on the truck in my sig, and I am making about 17-18 pounds of boost. Is that about right for a relatively stock truck? Also I see guys talking about setting their wastegates and such. Also making like 30 pounds of boost on a stock turbo, how is this done, and what are the real benefits. In short, what would the benefit be for a guy like me with a relatively stock truck to make that much boost pressure?

you have a rare truck if it came out with a 6 sd. in 99. I think you will have a hx 35 on there, so you will need a boost elbow on that to get more boost. You will need more fuel also. If you get a fueling box (edge ez, comp) of some kind it should come with the elbow. you do have a fuel presure and egt gauge too right?

WELL fuel and Boost do go hand in hand. If you add more fuel, you will get more boost if you WG is not pulling you back. You need to add engery to drive the turbo faster. All i have are Mach II injectors and a boost elbow i got from an Edge EZ module kit way back when.....I can nail 32 PSI WOT. With stock truck....19-20 is about right for boost numbers. Jacking up the boost without fuel is not going to help you much...and even then....you cant go too high until its all a bunch of hot air....i want to say that the stock turbo gets out of its Map around 35 PSI.. (BUT you will not even get close to that unless you are running injectors and say a TST box!)..anything more is not going to help you. I guess what i am really saying is find a good timing box (To start with) and your boost numbers will go up!

Well, at the moment, I have a BD box (re-badged Edge EZ) and I just put guages on. I do have an egt, but no fuel pressure. I just did a FASS and a new injector pump. I will put a fp guage in, but I don't think it's a priority at the moment. I will be putting the 275 injectors in on Saturday. With the edge EZ, should I be making more boost than I am? And yes, I know that it is a rare truck to have a 6spd in a 99. It was special ordered with the 6spd and 4:10 gears by the original owner (i'm #2). I picked it up for a song because he thought the injector pump was going out and all it turned out being was an APPS.

sounds like your good to go, all you need is the boost elbow, OR you could just take out you elbow and put in a 1/8" pipe plug and do away with the wastegage. Take off you intake hose to the turbo and you will see it. watch your boost if you do it don't want it much over 35 psi past that it's just hot air. You can get an ajustable elbow on ebay cheap. With just a ez and 275's you SHOULD be ok to block it off, just take it ez on it till you see how much boost you going to get

I could hit 20 lbs on my wastegated hx35 w/o an ez, so 17 sounds low.

Speaking of rarities, I had a hard line on that hx. It screwed htt all up- they thought it was a hy at first

As far as I can tell it was the orginial turbo. Its since been converted into a hybrid and is running in a DTR member's 12v.
