biggest tire w. stock rims
biggest tire w. stock rims
havent been on in a while, and recently purchase a new 2000 CTD. bad news is, it need a new set of sneakers. my truck has the factory 16x8 alloys that look great, id hate to ave to give em up. my question is, can i run a 315/75/16 on these rim w/o them rubbing? ive heard of folks runnin them with no problems, but yet some say they can only get 1/4 of a turn on the wheel before they start rubbing. im looking at getting the new wrangler duratracs but want them as big as possible without having to buy aftermarket rims with different back spacing. TIA
With a leveling kit, most trucks don't rub with 315/75/16's and stock wheels. If you have an odd length track bar, sometimes you get a little rubbing on the upper control arm on one side.
On my truck, the 315 75 16 Buckshot Mudders cleared perfectly with 2" leveling kit and 6.5" stock steel wheels.
Later I bought an Autozone track bar that was a little longer than the stock one for some reason and it shift my axle just a little to the passenger side, after that, my tires rubbed just a hair on the driver side control arm at full lock left turn. Not enough rub to cause problems, just a little annoying buzz when you really cranked it.

i didnt know you could fit 315.75.16's on the stockers. oh well my new wheels look good. I have 16x10 procomps and they rub on the back fender a little bit. I have 2.5" spacers to put on, but too many other projects to work on. And its nice out, so I have to ride the 50 a little bit too.
check the tire manufacturer's website. if you care about the warranty make sure they are within their specs! the stock aluminum wheels are 16x8, so you do have a little room. if you are gonna tow or have 3.54 gears, stick with the 285s to keep the sidewalls of the tires from being tucked in too much.
I ran 315's for several yrs on the 16x8" aluminum wheels. Had 2" frt lift.
Minor rubbing at hard over on the wheel but easy to live with.
However, hard to keep that much rubber balanced well.
Soultion was Centramatic Balancers. And with their spacer, the rubbing goes away.
315's are hard on a factory auto tranny.... if you have 3.55 rear end.

thanks for the input folks. i new i could run em if i was leveled up front with the 16x8's but wasnt sure if i could get em now and level it after since im in need of some new rubber pretty bad! its just a little peeve of mine to spend some on something like that without it being just what i want. dont do much towing other than my 32 foot camper that only makes about 100 miles worth of journeys a year. not sure on the the gears in the rear. anyone have an idea about runnin em without being leveled?
anyone got any input on the new goodyear dura tracs?
