Is there any way i can get that big rig sound that the new CTD have when there straight piped? I looove that sound, sounds just like a big rig IMO. My trucks a 99 CTD single cab 4x4. Thanx Chad

I had mine straight piped about a month ago... sounds good.It has the big rig sound.Its loud.. but not too bad

 

My truck is straight piped, i bought it that way. But i want the sound of the 3rd generation cummins when there straight piped if at all possible. Do they sound like that when there straight piped cause of the 4 inch exhaust stock or is it cause the common rail engine the new one's have?

 

Put stacks on that thing. I thought the straight-piped 5" exhaust that I had, sounded good, but the stacks kick gas. Particularly under 1900 RPMs. With the Dynaflex resonator that I have, it deepens the sound a bit more.

You won't regret it. If you're hammering the go pedal, it can get a bit rowdy, but just cruising, it isn't really any louder than a straight-piped exhaust w/ a tail pipe.

 

maybe it's the 4" pipe, maybe it's the fact that they're making more power...

I loved my stacks, but my straight 5" exhaust is actually louder and meaner sounding than the stacks were!

4" Straight pipe with a Rips 6" tip sounds awesome. It gave me a lower tone and it rocks..

 

in my members photo you can see my 4 inch side pipe exhaust.sooooooooo coooooool....but ..... at 46 pounds of boost i canhear the turbulance caused by the turn down. Only somthing that a devoted owner would notice. but any way this thing bullies the third gens off the road...so far... The three piece manifold gave it a new tone as well.

 

I'm sure nobody's mentioned this..................straight pipe it!

stright pipe and remove the scilencer ring from turbo would be the best bet on that 99

I went after that same sound as well.
Im strait piped with no silencer ring and running a BHAF.
It sounds ok, but I found that if you really want the sound of the big trucks you should get one of these:
