I just installed a BHAF in place of a filthy K&N drop in filter. THe sound is so much better, and u can tell it breathes alot easier now, especially WOT.

I can tell you this I just installed an hx40 and I also have a K&n drop in and the first run down the road I noticed that my exhaust temps did not seem to go down as I expected and when I returned to the house I poped the hood and found the service filter button had popped so I am going the BHAF route asap anyone have the Baldwin number? I also would like one of those turbo shields if anyone knows the guy who sells them??

Believe it or not I did some dyno testing using the BHAF + a few other filters (TDR did the same type of test). The BHAF actually lost HP over the OEM airbox style filter. I would say save you $$ or install something like a good AFE unit.

You can make your own heat shields, I made mine from aluminum, got it from lowes. The template is on this website under links or reviews or somewhere.

Yes, the bhaf compared to stock only flows about 80cfm more.

Stock paper element was 284cfm, BHAF was like 350? or so, I don't remember the number off hand, but it wasn't a huge increase compared to running AFE.

I mean who runs around all day at 40psi? most of us run moderate mods at max 20-30psi while pulling, not sure on mountain pulling.... but the BHAF should handle most everyones needs.

I could see if you do truck pulling alot, or drag racing etc... then AFE/others.

I like a paper element, no oil in the turbo, no oil recleaning stuff, its cheap, easy, and fits perfect.

I've read its good to 500 hp, no risk of collapsing like a stock box.

The BHAF will last 40-60,xxx miles most likely. Where a stock box will last 20-30,000.

BHAF sounds cool and looks cool and is cheap compared to AFE, my vote is BHAF. I've got the Outwear cover also.

Oh, Scotty 2 gets my second vote, it pulls COOL air in thru the cowl. but unfortunately he doesn't make them anymore He ran Uni filters with that setup. There should be some pics in the gallery if you search.

We've had lengthy threads on teh BHAF around here before. Bottom line is it's a mild airflow improvement that still filters well, but it's not flowing much more than stock.

That, and you give up the cool air draw of the factory box, so the BHAF might be a step backwards.

I'd try an AFE Pro Dry or another DRY filter.

Definately, lenghty. I know its been beat to death a little. I hope that was the point I got across also, was BHAF is a mild improvement.

Back then 5 years ago, there was not dry AFE, its good to know something else is available now.

I just can't come to paying what they want for those things.

I have the Scotty II hole, so I pull some cool air in (i think) thru the cowl.

Regardless, I just don't run my truck that hard to find out the true test.

From the seat of my pants while i had stock truck only changed air filters, egts cool downs where the same, power was the same, never felt anything.

Its when you have some good mods you will notice the difference from stock box to a aftermarket setup.

I just kept my bhaf from stock to my mods now and happy with no problems.

I like the "WHOA" factor when I show people who'v never seen one.

My personal thought is that until you start pulling the factory air filter restriction indicator gauge in, the factory filter is ample. Eventuall fuel and air mods will become such that the factory setup cannot flow enough air. At that point a better system is needed. The thing that bugs me is that once you move away from the factory filter, yes you start flowing more air, but most systems out there are nothing but bug catchers and when in heavy dust or dirt, they don't filter worth crap.

The stock box and a drop in k/n dyno'd about the same a afe stage 1. The thing I didn't like is when I barked the turbo I could hear the drop in getting tossed around in the box =\
