Big Blue24 Goes Big on the Dyno

Well, I was in Las Vegas today looking for my future residence and had an extra hour. I just happened to be a few blocks from Diesel Specialists in North Vegas who happened to have a dyno jet available.

When I pulled up, a fellow with an 03' dually CR was on the rollers with his Predator Downloader, TST Box, Pressure Box, and built Goerend tranny and HTT 62/12

He put down a wimpy 450 HP.

I was scared for old Blue when that hot 3rd gener put down such low numbers, but she pulled through, here's the graphs. First pic has a little smoothing and all four runs.

Second pic is of third run, highest HP, with no smoothing. There is no correction factor either. Las Vegas, Dry Humidity, 75*F kind of chilly for Vegas this time of year, and about 2200 ft elevation. So if anyone wants to semi correct my numbers so I can join the "club", that would be great.

Those are some great numbers, I'm sure that made you day. Or even year maybe. Sure would have made mine.

Yeah it felt good. You should have seen the looks on the guys in the shop. After the first run, they dropped their tools to come watch the next runs, truck sounded mean on the dyno. Too bad that nice fellow with the 03' left before he saw my truck destroy his numbers!

I forgot my usb cable so I was only able to dyno Adrenaline AGR 2000 tune.

Run 1 PL 10
Run 2 PL 8
Run 3 PL 7
Run 4 didnt start recorder till midway through the pull so it was deleted by them
Run 5 PL 7 with clamps on the wastegate tube trying to get more than 40 PSI boost but no change. I wonder if she wasn't heat soaked or at least had a big fan blowing if it would have broken that elusive 500 HP.

No one is gonna give me that last 0.8 HP for the spike are they?

Does anyone think my clutch slipped a bit? I was beating on it and might have glazed it a bit. Las Vegas is 2500 feet lower in elevation than my current residence and the super fast spoolup and instant power was too much to resist!

BBS! Lol

Those are killer numbers-- but I'm surprised you didn't break 1K torque anywhere

It looks like the Adrenaline pulls well into the upper RPMs, and that's why you can make the bigger power without the typically monstrous tq numbers. It used to be (back when we were RPM handicapped) that most guys over 450hp were over 1K lb-ft or close to it.

Dare I ask what the EGTs were?

Was this a DynoJet? It looks simlar to the Superflow printout I once had...

Anyway, it appears that the 3rd gen turbo is working very well for you.

Congrats, BB24!!

I didn't get corrected numbers, but I wonder if my clutch was a little glazed over as there are two spikes/slips right about where the torque peaks out.

I'm used to driving at 4700-7000 ft elevation. That 2200 feet of Las Vegas was fast spooling, and I could burn my tires in PL 2 whereas up high where I noramlly reside, it takes some serious pump stretch PL 5 or so when it's warm out.

Guys, one more small factor, I filled up when I got to Vegas at an unfamiliar gas station that had B5 biodiesel. I wonder if straight #2, with maybe a touch of cetane booster would have netted me that extra 0.8 HP?

HOHN, I believe this was a dynojet 248 HD. The operator had two buttons on a cord, one seemed to be a dyno brake of some sort to let the truck load up some boost and then the second button would start the run on the computer and release the brake. They used an optical pickup to get the torque, had to pay and extra 15 bucks for the tq readings.

It was fun. I will go back in a few weeks when I get established in my residence. Maybe i'll bring some nitromethane, my laptop for different quad tunes, and some stock tires to give me a good tire size gear ratio.

Good numbers!

You could probably be at 550hp pretty easily with more turbo!

If you really think about it, that is a pretty cost effective 500 rwhp setup. Makes a big difference not having to stack!

Quad, if you check Comp D, those guys are leary of the validity of my dyno run because the power curves are so smooth!

My hat's off to you, best fueling, best towing, best dynoing box on the market period!

Since dynojets have trouble getting enough load on these trucks, maybe those 35s actually helped you out???????? Congrats on the excellent numbers. I'm itching to get my truck back on the dyno to see what the new setup does, but I'm not anxious to see how the clutch holds up.

Those are great numbers indeed. PL07 was still pulling strong at the end of the graph.

Thanks J Lent. The dyno operator told me he usually just runs them out to the rev limiter. Luckily I asked before he did a run so I could inform him of the Adrenaline's high rpm capabilities and my stock valve train. I told him to run it out to 3500 rpm, but he was a little quick to lift as you can tell by the runs.

I'm now wondering if I should have tried PL 6, it might have saved enough fuel to put me over 500 at 3K rpm.
