BHAF Question.

Hey guys.
I took my stock air box out tonight in order to install the BHAF. Upon removal of the air box, there are three bolts sticking up that were used to secure the stock air box.

I was wondering what you all did with these three bolts? It looks like I'll have to remove the inner fender lining to get these bolts out.

In the mean time, I used three rubber grommets and placed them over each bolt to act as a cushion between the BHAF and the bolts.

Just wondering what you all did with those three bolts and if you removed them, whats involved in getting the inner fender well lining out?

Rich

I left mine.. Its been in there for 10k and no probs. The studs are not long enough to damage the filter material. They actually may help keep it from bouncing around. The studs seem to grab the mesh a little.

Yup,,,,,,,,
I left mine in,,, Just turned the nuts that held the stock box on, upside down and threaded them back on. It's like three little feet holding up te BHAF. been that way for over 40k now.

Rich, make a heat shield and use the bolts to secure the heatshield to the fender.

Check out Phox's heatshield setup - very nice......

That is exactly what I was thinking.
I have contacted a metal fabrication shop and they looked at Phox's template.
They can have it done in two weeks as they are backed up right now.
They are going to use polished aluminum and laser etch the Cummins logo "C" on the side that faces the turbo.
For an additional $45.00 they will anodize the shield either red or blue for me.
Ive ordered the OuterWear foam in red, so I'll have them anodize the shield in red as well.

I think I'll cut the bolts in half. That will leave enough thread to screw down the heat shield and then use red anodized acorn nuts to hold the heat shield down.

Rich.

Don't cut the bolts until you check them with the nuts you are going to use.
The heatshield doesn't lay flat on the fender, due to it's roundness I guess,
so the stock length of the bolts is just enough to fasten down the shield.

That shield sounds like it will look great.

Should have them fab up a bunch of them for the DTR Store.

(oh, I can't take credit for the template, I just got if from the tech facts,
and can't remember the user who first supplied it)

Thanks Phox. I have not cut anything yet. The three bolts are still there.

Im concerned that the part facing the turbo may not be visable and the "C" logo will go unseen. I'll have to wait until they actually start building it.

I'll see how much this thing is going to cost me and I'll go from there.

Rich.

BHAF, lets see, I think I've heard of these. Yelp I have.

What I've done on the last few I've installed is use a hammer to drive the three studs out. This does a couple of things, lowers the BHAF so it doesn't touch the insulation pad (if your hood has one), and eleminates the possibility of the studs damageing the filter. Although it's nice to hear they haven't been a problem for hotmpr.

Of course if you are using a heat shield, not a option.

Good luck, RJR

Hey HOTMOPR, what are those part numbers for the filters? I don't like the oil type filters. HATE K & N, am just not sure about some of the common ones people are using yet..Fell pretty safe about the paper filters..

Any idea what they will flow? How did the price compare? How long do they last?

THanKS!
