How much are those outerwears costing you guys? I just put my BHAF on a half hour ago, still have to take it for a test drive. My mom walked by and said "What is that big white thing?" I told her and showed her the old one and she just rolled her eyes and walked away

$34.00 sounds familiar for the water resistant material. As a warning to those that have them. Make sure you pad the old studs on the wheel house. I removed mine last night to accomodate an oil change and was dismayed to find a hole in the Outerwears where it sat on one of the plastic studs. I replaced the filter this time using a styrofoam pad around each of the studs.

Good suggestion Commatoze. I used a couple small pieces of egg crate foam from a gun case....works great.
As far as the filter getting wet...I've checked it after driving in rain, and the Outerwears and filter were completely dry. It seems like the heatshield blocks roadspray well, along with heat from the turbo. My Outerwears was $31.90 shipped to AK.

The OEM rubber mushroom shaped thingies that held the stock airbox on work great for covering the studs.

Better yet, drill 1/2 holes in the mount/heatshield (if you have one) and use the mushroom thingies (technical name I'm sure) to hold the mount down.

I found a small hole in my outerwears where the hose clamp connecter rubbed it a little.

Put some electrical tape between the connector and the outerwears, tightened it down, then wrapped the tape over the top.

HOLY CRAP! I just took the truck for a test run tonight before work, and that K&N is either junk or I didn't clean it right! My max EGT went from 1225 down to 1000 My cruising EGT, although I didn't get to test it for more than a couple of miles was down 100-150 degrees! Boy does that turbo sound SWEEEEEEEEEET Hands down the best 49.63 I have spent in a while! Those who hanen't replaced their stockers or maybe even K&Ns should get a BHAF-you won't be disappointed!!!!

Phox, that is what I did....used the rubber mushrroms through the heatshield just like the stock box, then used the stock plastic nuts to hold it down. I put the foam on top of all that so the BHAF had a padded spot to sit.

Yes, someone said to flip the mushroom things around and put them on over the stud, but mine are different. They're closed on one end so you can't spin them around.

I just finished installing my BHAF. This is about one of the easiest things I have ever done. I got the pattern for the heat shield from the tech facts, went to the scrap yard and for two bucks got a piece of scrap aluminum for a heat shield then called Outerwears and got a cover for it. That super sweet lady that Jlipskoc was talking about had a really deep voice but he knew exactly what I wanted. Be sure no part of your filter or heat shield touches the aluminum AC lines. Doesn't take much to rub through them. Total time including the trip to the junk yard, two hours.

I dont guess its really considered a BHAF, but i just bought and installed a K&N cone filter(part # re-0880) in place of my drop-in K&N filter, and it made a huge difference in the in-cab turbo whistle(which i love )It sounds the same to me as if you just have a pair of panty hose over the intake with no filter. Its sweet . I know some dont like the K&N filters, but i really like mine. I just kind of wanted one that was washable, and reusable, because a lot of the time im in a lot of dust. It was $60 at auto zone, and i had 2 gift certificates which brought it to about $38 .

They are disposable like a standard paper filter, but with the Outerwears pre-filter cover, you'll get ten's of thousands of miles before you need to replace it. The surface area of the filter is huge.

I can see the BHAF with the prefilter going 50,000 miles before changing.

Easily.

I have mine offroad a lot, dusty, the prefilter gets most of it.
The smaller stuff that does get through, just remove the filter, tap lightly, and it falls out.
