Best way to Launch a DTT tranny
Re:Best way to Launch a DTT tranny
4WD is great for short drag runs (i.e.-1/8th mile) but Really slows you down in the 1/4 mile. I ran 10.01 in the 1/8th, and a 15.98 in the 1/4...that is my '98, not the '03 [undecided]

Thats why I said start at 10psi and work your way down, you'll prolly end up launching at 6 to 8psi when your all done testing. So you can either lower the boost launch and hookup, or you can spin doesn't really matter......see which one feels best to you.
Re:Best way to Launch a DTT tranny
I like spinning! And no I do not wish I had 4wd 2wd is still my fav obvisously because you can slam it! I have found also that my air makes a big diff in the launch if I run it soft the truck will squat and hook it I run it hard it will spin like mad and sometimes wheel hop!
Re:Best way to Launch a DTT tranny
That's how drag racers run their stuff. Soft in the rear. My friend has 50/50 drag shocks in the rear and 90/10 front struts and his car hooks like a mad man. Just a slight chirp and he's off. The thing rides like a Cadillac and it's been dropped about 2".
Re:Best way to Launch a DTT tranny
Jamie,
I just installed an Emjay Controller with the new "Lock-N-Launch" feature. I ordered this from ATS and it should work on a DTT tranny. It just requires 1st and 2nd gear lockup capabilities. In the mode I use for drag racing there is a feature where you pull to the line and apply the brake. With firm pressure on the brake you rev your engine and your boost climbs to 10 to 15 psi without torque converter lockup. My torque converter is set to lockup at 90 percent throttle position so floor the throttle and off you go! I have a 4x4 so I go to about 15 lbs of boost. The only problem I having is defueling at launch and I hope a BD anti defueler will correct this.
Lock-N-Launch
I hope this is of some help.

Re:Best way to Launch a DTT tranny
Lock-n-Launch causes lockup when the driveshaft is spinning at least 400 RPM and the throttle is beyond the threshold. You should use a triple-disk TCC to keep from slipping.
Re:Best way to Launch a DTT tranny
Who said anything about slipping? I don't need any info on an ATS tranny in this thread as you can see I would never buy one and I am a stong fan of DTT. I would also never even think of running an Emjay strategy controler because it is not tested or endorsed by my transmission building company if they said it worked then I would probably run one until Bill K gives the go ahead I will not run one.
Re:Best way to Launch a DTT tranny
Hey Folks ;D cool down everybody !

I won't comment on trannies etc. I do read Jamies question as: How do I do an optimal launch with the tranny I have ???

I don't see the necessity to talk about different trannies, different controllers etc-

Now off the soapbox, I'll try to answer the Q as I understood it.

I think that Kat's advice is very sound. I think the only way to find out for your truck will be some launches down the strip because since you have modded your suspension your slip (or spin) characteristics will be quite different to the standard 2WDs . If your tires hook up after a short distance with 8psi and your boost is up really fast then you should be OK IMHO. If you have too much wheelspin you ruin your times the same way the stock TC ruins them, you rev over the power band and don't get it to the ground.

Just my 2c

AlpineRAM

Re:Best way to Launch a DTT tranny
Jamie,
Cool down. I didn't mention any brand names. There are several manufacturers of triple-disc TCs. Single-disc converter controllers have an unlock at WOT throttle to prevent TCC slippage when locked (The Strategy is one of them.) That is the opposite from Locking the TCC at WOT.
