Best Driving Lights Out There?

I'm tired of the crummy Dodge headlights. Even with Sylvania SilverStar bulbs and running the fog lights along with the headlights, they still don't put out much light. So I'm considering installing some driving lights. What are the best driving lights out there and can they legally be used along with the lowbeams? Thanks!

Have you tried the sport headlight conversion? They are supposed to be a lot better.

I found an offer on Pavementsucks.com that has them for about $175/pair, but I just replaced one of my regular factory headlight assemblies and I'd really rather not spend that kind of money just on that. Plus, in order to access those assemblies, my whole front bumper has to be lowered, which sucks.

So what about high-quality aftermarket driving lights?

I browsed the Lightforce website some last night. About how much do these units run? Also, what are the legalities usually regarding the use of these on the road?

Stat007,
I just bought some Lightforce 170 Strikers from the Mack dealer here in Dallas. I really like them so far. I mounted them on my deer strainer (see pic in gallery). The 170's are way to bright to use as driving lights, they are strictly off-road use. As far as legalities go, I don't know, but I would not want to get caught with them on while on the road. They do offer a set of 140 Strikers that aren't as bright, don't know if they could be used as driving lights though. I paid about $200.00 for the set of 170's. Please note, that is for lights only, no install kit, that is extra. I made my own kit, as I did not like the switch that was in the install kit and I had a relay already.

Stat 007,
Here is a link to the Texas Statutes page: Texas Statutes
Go on down to the "transportation code" link and browse that for a while, there might be somthing about vehicle lighting there. (Title 7 of the Transportation code deals with vehicles and traffic).

Yeah, it says 300 Candlepower or less. This doesn't help me much though because I have yet to find listed Candlepower ratings of the different driving lights out there.

Stat, if you're looking for true "driving lights", I'd check out the narrrow beam or pencil beam PIAA's. I often use mine in conjunction with low beams and find that on a divided interstate, they're not objectionable to oncoming traffic. Following is another story. You can light up the inside of a car like day time at 100 yards.

Commatoze,

Where's a good place to purchase these PIAA lights?

Commatoze,

Also, I see that there are quite a few different PIAA lamp models. Specifically, which ones were you referring to?

I'm thinking of the 520's which I use. Go to the PIAA site and chek out the entire 500 series. As far as where to purchase them, I think I got mine at Central 4WD. It pays to shop around because prices can vary greatly.

I have the 40 Round model on my truck which make a night and day difference, they also fit into the factory fog light area with some modification but you don't have that with you replacement bumper. I have been stopped one time out in the country for having them on. I bought mine at 4wheeleparts of dallas.

Are these lights so bright that you need to only use them with your highbeams (i.e. when there is no oncoming traffic), or can they be used with the lowbeams?
