BD Xmonitor

Has anyone installed the new BD X monitor that is available for the 2003 Ram? How was the install? Is the EGT pre turbo or post turbo? Where does the tranny sensor mount? I'm trying to make up my mind here, any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re:BD Xmonitor

I installed one in my 2003 about a month ago. You can install the EGT probe either pre or post turbo. The tranny temp is captured by tapping into a wire running to the PCM - no additional temp sensor is needed....
You can download the installation instructions at:
http://www.bd-power.com/ram/xmonitor.html
On the right side of the page is the icon for "instruction manual". I found the installation to be more time consuming than difficult....

Re:BD Xmonitor

I’ve got one and I like it. I would have rather had normal round gauges, but my wife needs the handle. I like the fact that the max reading you hit can be viewed later and reset. Just in case you didn’t have time to check it while you were making a pass. (On the road, not at your passenger.) ;D I only have one small problem. I found that I can’t see the readings when the gauge is in the sun and I’m wearing my dark Oakley sun glasses. I suppose I could see if I could adjust them to be a little brighter, but they’re set perfect for all the other times so I’ll live with it.

Re:BD Xmonitor

thanks for the replies. Sounds like a good product. I also want to keep my grab handle. I use it every time I get in and out of the truck. Sounds great....

Put me in the happy camper section also. The only thing I dont like about it is the price. They are way proud of those things but I would spend the money again if I had it to do over. I have had a glitch with mine where it will remain zero'ed across the board. Have to restart the truck to get it working again. Two or three times so far.

Re:BD Xmonitor

The X-mon is a good product and they get the job done. Personally I think the analog guages look better and are much easier to read.

Re:BD Xmonitor

I agree with you WTTD. There just wasn’t any place to feasibly mount 3 gauges and keep the grab handle on this truck.

Re:BD Xmonitor

True enough, the grab handle is nice. I wish there were more options for gauge mounts.

Re:BD Xmonitor

I love my digital's. Only problem I've had with them is my FP sender keeps crapping out. When I get a new one, I'm going to put a needle valve on it.

Re:BD Xmonitor

What kind of digitals do you have? I tried the Dakotas once, the FP sender crapped out in 7 days so I sent the whole setup back and put the Isspro's back in. I really like the SPA's but most folks don't want to pay that much.
