BD RAD Results

The rain sneaked around the dragstrip yesterday, so I was able to get to the track to try a new things including my new BD Race Anti-Defuel (RAD) box. A thread was started about this box, but it basically incorporates a three position switch to cut the top speed limitier (middle position) and off-line defueling (race position). Prior to this box, my truck would defuel hard in 1st gear when coming off the line with boost built. Because of this, my 60' times suffered, and I could only pull a 13.532 @ 101.9 with a meager 2.042 60' time (best ever). After the box, I was able to turn a 13.226 @ 102.3 (1.893 60') with a best 60' of 1.815! A definite improvement . BD has done a heck of a job with this one!

Dad,

Good point on the sig... I forgot about that!

Jaime,

Absolutely. I've used mine on the street a couple of times, and I use my speed switch on the interstate regularly. It smokes a fair amount more on the bottom than without the box in "race mode", but.. it's not defueling, so it's dumping the fuel in there like it should. Other than that, it's about the same. The only annoyance is that the check engine light comes on when you switch out of "race mode", but it goes away after five starts.

Stake,

No problem, Man. Both of my runs were equally equipped with both fueling boxes hooked up and the runs were in pretty equal temperature, too. Even when it was crazy hot earlier yesterday afternoon I was still almost 2 tenths faster, and my 60's were down in the 1.8 range. Before, no matter how hard I launched I couldn't get the truck outta the 2.0s.

John

Re:BD RAD Results

banshee,

That is great news. My truck was the same way. No matter what I did I could not get under a 2.0 60' time. It is my understanding that the 4:10 geared trucks are worse than the 3.55's. I assume you have the 3.55's. My truck has 4.10 gears.

Stake,

Yeah, I have the 3.55s. I'm sure it's going to help you out, because yours sounds the same to me, too. I got your PM... is it still working okay?

Jaime,

At least they're pretty reasonably priced!

John

Re:BD RAD Results

Still working. I had a chance to test it on a brake stall. Before it would never go over 18psi. I held it until 23psi and then chickened out.
I held it until 23psi and then chickened out.
Thats pretty smart actually........your still on the stock or cryoed outputshaft......correct? Keep it under 20psi and it will live longer. Take it above 20psi and you'll hear a nice lil "pop" as it snaps.... I'm just wondering if its worth looking into this box for my truck........my last outing was 1.87 and 1.89 60fts but I was writing that off to traction issues with the track.

Try it Just basec on my experiences is all.

Kat,
If your truck is defueling you will feel it on the line. The ecm will not allow the truck to build and maintain boost. It actually cuts off the fuel in millisecond increments to keep power output down. I have sound of a truck doing this if I can find a way to link it I will. All trucks might be different also that's just what I have seen on 2 trucks. And your right, after 20 psi you will hear a little POP. 8k miles 1st race 1st try. After I get my Large DTT Billet output in it will be 30 psi launches. Can you say OUCH
Fred
