Banks Wastegate problem!!!

well I got my new (used) turbo today, only to find the wastegate is busted up!! (check the pic in my gallery, is pending as I type) seems like I can't win for losing anymore, was wondering if anyone had seen this happen before & worst case scenario are there any other sources for a wastegate??? this turbo came with the power elbow & I'm gonna have to buy a $150 downpipe to make it work, now I'll be darned if the freakin wastegate isn't all jacked up!! I really don't have the $$ to buy either one right now, but looks like I have no choice, cuz my stock turbo needs bearings (the comp wheel is rubbing the housing) I guess I can use the guts from this new turbo & just stick the stock (JUNK!!) 12 cm exhaust housing on it for now until I can figure out where to go from here!!!! any ideas???????? thanks, Dusty

I would clean it up and use an air compressor to check the diaphram operation. get it all strighten up first. its not that bad, must be road salt or

need to check it before you install it

the problem I was referring to was the split in it, the head on it is pulled away from the piece that the two nuts are on, if you look a little closer you can see it, there shouldn't be a gap between the two, I should have gotten a pic. of the "good" side too, sorry, check it out again & see if you can tell what I'm talking about, thanks, Dusty

but will it stay, it looks like the sheet metal is torn/ripped or whatever you wanna call it????? so I doubt bending it back will keep it there????? I'm afraid that it will continue to tear its way on around the whole thing until it's completely ripped apart???? any ideas? thanks, Dusty

Get someone with a mig on very very very low amps to through a couple of tack welds once you bang it back on...

Or just JB it...

Have you checked the dimensions of your old wastegate actuator to see if they're interchangeable? It'll probably fit just fine. You can buy those from Dodge, and probably Cummins. Sure, it's not the "Banks Big Head", but you can still adjust the rod for whatever maximum boost you want, and you'll never know the difference.

i feel terrible because im the one who sent him the turbo, it wasnt damaged when i packaged it up, so apparently the fine boys over at fedex did a heck of a job on the handling part.

i would check to see if the stock style WG will bolt back onto the housing, because all the big head does is stay close until 37psi, which you could make a stocker do that with a boost elbow
