Question Backup Light Installation

I have seen many posts about wiring the backup lights into the reverse light wire but my question is, Which wire is the reverse light, i see two coming out of the bulb connector? which one do i splice into?

Crank the truck and put it in reverse, set the emergency brake and turn the truck off. The reverse light should still be on. Chaulk the wheels so you dont get smooshed and then get a test light out and see which ones hot. Then get back in and put the truck in park and make sure the wire is not still hot.

I do it the way decried above except I pull the bulb first. The hot wire will always be hot. With the bulb in place, both wires will be hot. Why does it matter? If you are using the ground side of the wiring and the bulb burns out, you have no more backup lights.

I would wire a relay so that the lights are triggered by the backup lights. I have seen at least one truck with cooked wiring with a guy running 2 tractor lights and got a little archage.

I agree with Dave. Using a relay will give you more light and save you some headaches.

I used the smallest ones I could find from wally mart. 55watts and $14. Literally, night and day difference when backing...especially w/a looooong trailer.
