Auxilary Idle Control
Re:Auxilary Idle Control
I'm assuming you want a fast idle??
There are several options availabe, and a quick search will give you more information than you care to read.
However, there is THIS little gadget from Geno's. Don't know how well it works but if you check around someone here probably has one and can give their opinion.
Many (including me) have just cut a piece of closet rod or broom handle or something to the desired length and it fits between the base of the seat and the pedal. I angled mine slightly on the end so that I can adjust it from between 1000 and 1300 RPM's....and some others use the electric seat to adjust RPM's.
If you don't like the cheap, creative ways you can always opt for some more expensive options.

Re:Auxilary Idle Control
Right now, it is basically what the stick could do, but eventually I will be adding a PTO winch, and will want a real aux idle control. I was just hoping to get two birds with one stone here. With the older Powerstrokes you could build one for about ten dollars. That was kind of the idea I was looking for.
Re:Auxilary Idle Control
I used a fast idle solenoid from a GM QuadraJunk carb. I made a bracket that bolts to my timing cover and mounts the solenoid so that it pushes on the throttle linkage. A simple toggle switch is wired to an ignition on hot wire. The plunger on the solenoid is threaded so I can adjust the speed. It doesn't have enough power to push the throttle open but will hold it if you tap the foot pedal. I'm not familiar with the 24 valve throttle linkage so I don't know what kind of bracket you'd have to make. There's a picture of mine in this thread. http://www.dodge-diesel.org/yabbse/i...0263#msg140263
Re:Auxilary Idle Control
I use a Cummins High Idle kit. It is electronic plug and play and you can adjust it to whatever you want for RPM. It plugs into the APPS. Bit pricy though about $200 US $270 Canadian.

Where did you get that? From Cummins? Do you have a part number?

Guys, I have the Cummins hi idle as well......works excellent. Consists of a dash mounted switch and control box (adjustable) that mounts in the engine bay. After starting the truck normally, you hit the high idle and the rpm's run up to around 1350-1400.....works real well for warm up.
The unit is not adjustable from the cab and has no display or anything like that.

Re:Auxilary Idle Control
I put the Cummins kit in soon after I got the truck. You can vary the idle speed by removing the cover on the box and adjusting the little screw - can only do this under the hood. Mine is set to about 1400 rpm. I seem to recall some posts a while back where some had found similar units with the adjustment inside the cab. Also I seem to recall you can get your computer reflashed to allow various idle speeds, especially for PTO applications.
