auto taking off in 2nd

My 02 has a habit of taking off in second or even drive sometimes. I can pull it in low manually but it still takes off in second. If I stop and shut it off it will take off normal for awhile but then stop going to low. It's not bad in normal driving unless it stays in drive but with a loaded trailer it's real miserable. Any cure to this problem?

Sounds like sensors in the valve body. Do a search for gov. pressure sensor.

what kind of trans do you have? do you have a voltage regulator or resistor on pin 31?

if not check the voltage on that wire with the key on. should be around 4.5v.

Sounds like governor solenoid. Very common point of failure.

It's built by a local shop, he builds his own convertors from scratch also. Where is the pin 31 located at? It's funny you can shut the truck off and it will work fine for awhile before it screws up again. Thanks

on the passenger side of the engine bay on the firewall behind the airfilter.

the middle connector, the white one.

mine is a orange wire, but you can pull the connector out and see which one 31 is.

I just talked the my trans guy, he says some chips will cause problems with one of the solenoids flooding fluid. He has a aftermarket solenoid to go in the trans that cures the problem. He hasn't lead me wrong yet so I'm going to try it.
The exact problems I'm having is what he described without me telling me all the problems I'm having. I reply when I get it changed.
