Auto Meter Pyro not working
Auto Meter Pyro not working
I have a 4344 Ultra-Lite Pyrometer kit that I installed on my 2002 Dodge Diesel Truck. I installed the probe in the exhaust pipe about 6 inches down from the turbo, connected the wires and ran them through the firewall to the gauge in a pillar mount. The black wire runs to a good ground and the red wire runs to a switched hot connection. The gauge reads about 250 and has never moved from there. This is a unit I purchased October of 2002 and installed for the first time last weekend.
What could be wrong? and use I did start the truck and drive it.

Re:Auto Meter Pyro not working
I had an autometer gauge malfunction like that and I pulled the A-pillar finding the ground wire was not good on the gauge itself.
Don't know if this will help you or not.

Re:Auto Meter Pyro not working
Sdscuba,
I had the same problem, After I asked about it on here, I figured out that you need to hookup the probe wires first, then the ground and hot, this should zero out the gauge and it should work from there. My gauge did the exact same thing, stuck at 250. You can search here to find the exact answer I got, it was awhile ago. Let me know if it works.

Re:Auto Meter Pyro not working
Cole, I will try your suggestion first, since I did connect power before I connected the Probe.
This is Autometers suggestion:
Use a volt meter and measure the total power to the gauge by checking across the red and black wires to verify that both the power and ground are sufficient. If it is above 12 volts, then dis-connect the probe from the gauge and see if it changes the available reading. If so, then the the probe is at fault. If not, then the gauge is at fault. Let me know what you find.
Thank you
