Attention all HTB2 62/12 owners

Does this thing have much of a bark problem? This may be comparing apples to oranges but a HX35 with a stage III upgrade, thus making it a 60 mm, really barks with a semi-stock 12 cm hsg. So what's the diff? Is the HTB2 62/12 as I read it a 62mm with a 12 cm hsg? Is it a different charger i.e. a Schwitzer or some other base non hx35? Basically how do they keep it from barkin bad assuming they don't?

Just curious

As far as I know, the 12 & 14 housings aren't the same measurement as the Holset "Standards".

I asked Paul about barking, and he said it would, but that it would not hurt it.

With a 62mm HTb2 the rear wheel is better matched in size to the front wheel. You will probably not see as much barking as with an hx35/40 hybrid.

On my 04, the II 62/12 is much less prone to bark than the stocker. I have been running the TST up a little higher on average and this would cause an easier barking situation with the little HY35. I really have to get careless with the II 62/12 and get out of a hard pull instantaneously to get it to
dog-talk to me. So far, I am really happy with the unit.

I have the 62/14 and have only barked it once, and that was under extreme conditions setting my manual boost controllers limits. Under normal operations, including heavy applications of the right foot, I have not had any "barking" problems. In my situation, with the mods I have, "barking" is driver induced, not a design issue of the product. I would purchase this turbo again without any hesitancy.

Hard to compare since we've got 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gens on this thread, but my PS64 is barely slower to spool than the hx35 and some have reported better than stock spool for the ps62. Like they told me- time to choose between spool and egt control

Talking

I upgraded my HX35 with a HTT stage III upgrade last year Jan-05. That thing would bark like crazy. I also have 85 hp injectors and a comp. I was hoping the stage III upgrade would cool the EGT some, but it really didn't do anything. I can't see any improvement since I upgraded to the stage III. I could still hit 1350 "easily" towing in 6th or 5th gear and would have to back out to reduce to safe levels, same as with the stock HX35. This was with the comp turned OFF.... I took the truck out and just ran it 6th gear foot on the floor "pulling no load", comp on 5 x 5. I could still easily exceed 1350 degrees. In comes the Phat Shaft 62, 14 cm2. It's winter time so not towing. I took the truck back out (same road) and ran it 6th gear foot on the floor comp on 5 x 5, same outside temp as previous run with HX35 w/stage III upgrade. Max attainable temp 1200......... Awesome........ So far no barking, but I have not tried to make it bark. I don't notice any spoolup difference between the turbo's. So far the Phat Shaft 62 is just the ticket for my setup.

I thought the term "barking" was used when you back out of the fuel too quickly and you hear the turbo complain. Reading some of the replys in this thread leads me to believe that some are getting the turbo to complain by getting into it too hard?

Ok I should complete the sentance I guess.

Yes it barks when I'm on it HARD but only if I let off the go peddle while in a high boost situation.

just normal driving it will bark sometimes if I let off while it's building boost but most of the time to get it to bark I have to be flogging it and let off while the turbo is boosting.
Is that a bit more clear?

normal putting around no barking occurs.
