Anyone with a Stage II AFE Read this!!!

I got to thinking about my AFE Stage II. I like the Cold air "Box" that keeps the heat out...but i dont think its getting all the air that the 6" Filter can handle. I could be wrong...but whatever! SOOOOOO this is what i did.

I got me a piece of 4" exhaust pipe. I borrowed a friends 4 1/4" hole saw and cut a hole in the fire wall. Then i cut another hole in my Stage II. I welded a tang to the pipe and installed it through into the Cowl. I used a sheet metal screw to hold the pipe into the air box.

Dang it if my truck felt a little snapper! It takes a bit...but say about 10MPH...when the turbo gets going.....it pulls a little harder....then on to the next gear! I would think that the faster you go....the better it works....but i feel that you do get cooler air than what is supplied from the current fender feed.......Someone else please try this and see if im crazy or not!

OK....as soon as i can figure out how to get pics on here...i will....but dang it if it kicks my butt everytime!! haha! Sorry.....

Dan

Now you know why the Scotty II is fed from the cowl and the fender inlet

Good idea and nice work, Dan.
Rowland (i think it was) suggested I drill the hole in my cowl to add a little cool air to the Quad Air box. Sounds like it may be a good idea.

It might work...but you have more of an open box.....BUT i would think that air pressure from the Cowl would blow in some cooler air to help keep the hot out.....EH...cant hurt! When we look at your truck.....we can pop one in if ya want.....i just better not hear you ***** about the noise!!! hahahahaha

Sometimes being a little hard of hearing is not such a bad thing.

Careful when doing this, depending on your turbo. I had the same mod with my PDR-Hybrid, and all was good. The "hair dryer" noise associated with my HTB2 had me reverse the procedure. Way too loud in the cab.

You ain't kiddin. I closed the hole off on my scotty just to shut that dang turbo up. Only problem though is that temps are up about 100* now.

I've been thinking about running tubing from the cowl to the stock box for some pseudo scotty action

So do all the s300 variants sound like hair dryers? I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Thanks much! I wanted something a little differant and not taking up any dash space.....i have since updated it somewhat....i redrilled it and redid the stickers....looks a little better......

Did my 2nd mod to a AFE Stage II Last night....this one with a Pryo on the truck (I know...i need my A kicked for not haveing any!!!!) BUT he said that his EGT's dropped about 50-75 from his normal at 55MPH .....sooo.....HUM........

Do yall know how hard it is (I already know Tyler knows) to drill a 4.25" hole with 3 very fresh Shiners in ya??!??!! I dont suggest it! Never seen a drill smoke that bad! Ill give it to Black and Decker though.....still going strong...sorta...making some weird noises......eh...wifes drill!
