Well, as a result of another thread on here last week, I was prompted to order another DSS for my 3500 because of the excellent results I had with my 2500 and the positive feedback about the product on this board. It arrived yesterday and I promptly installed it last night......it takes about 20 minutes to install. As I was on my morning drive to work (about 30 miles), I couldn't help but smile....the difference in steering with the DSS is truely remarkable. The slop and play is eliminated and any wandering down the road is virtually gone. Anyone on the fence about the DSS should seriously consider one - it works as advertised. I am going to have the truck aligned now to make sure everything is in spec - I have never had this truck aligned. I'm going to add 2 more degrees of castor, though......I don't feel the stock specs give enough to truely make these trucks drive as straight as an arrow. I added 2 degrees to my 2500 a few years ago and the improvement was well worth it.....no unusual tire wear or reduced ball joint life as some claim. That said, increasing the castor even more may reduce the ball joint life.

Man thats what I like to hear! My truck will drive straight down the road for about 30 yards then its all over the road. I think I'm going to buy a new steering box then get the DSS. My stock steering box is shot.

I am curious about the Caster adjustment as I was going to get an alignment. I have a slight pull develop over the last few hundred miles and was gonna get it looked at.. Hmm.

Try the dss first. It along with an adjustment of your gear box may take care of your problem.... it did for a friend of mine.

I have never had steering problems with my 2001 4x4 2500. Infact with 117K miles on it, it still has a tight steering response with no slop at all.

I am wondering if my huge steel front a rear Ranch hand bumpers don't accomplish a lot of the save as this mod. basically stiffening the front end of the frame.

any... just wondering...

I installed the DSS on my '01 and hardly noticed any difference in steering, but I wouldn't call it a bad investment.

Several fixes for 2nd gen steering have been offered over the years. Two that interest me are changing the alignment specs, or replacing the box with a faster ratio one like the GMs use.

 

I would like to get this as well. However, I cant because I have the front receiver mount. You can try tightening up the bolts from the box to the frame. Mine were a little loose.

 

The DSS worked with my Hidden Hitch front reciever.

Does the receiver sit above or below the DSS as you look at ifrom the front?

The DSS is 4 or 5 inches directly behind the reciever. It mounts under the sway bar brackets.
