Am I missing something? (injector/plate/EGT question)

Typically when starting out on a 12v, the infamous #10 and 3kGSK are brought up, and met with mostly unanimous agreement...

But then someone mentions injectors..

What I seem to read alot is: "If you push that #10 full forward, you can run hot. With the 370's, you'll run REAL hot"

So, if keeping stock injectors and sliding the plate forward can get me to the point where I need to watch my EGT's, is there ANY advatage to having the larger injectors at that point, with a stock turbo? Driveability better with the 370's and the plate back to a normal position? better spooling?

I had always been thinking that a #10 and 3k GSK are "stage 1", and that a larger turbo and 370's would be "Stage 2"... with the parts installed at the same time.

If we want to get specific, let's use my '98 auto as an example.

370s will get you plenty of fuel, but you can not keep your foot in it without getting very hot. they are fine for drag racing and i pull with my truck all the time. but i do have enough fuel to burn it down. you must use common sense, and remember you control the egts, it is not idiot proof. so don't let your knuckehead buddie drive the truck. i tow 30 gross with mine and never have a problem. but i don't try to run 80 up a 10% grade either.

But my question is - why do the 370's, if just the plate alone will provide enough fuel to get EGT's too high already?

the 370s are worth more hp, it is short burst power, but more hp. mine will dyno at 430 plus right now and the highway punch is awsome. you really can't use more than 250 to 300 rwhp for any long amount of time. if i keep my truck at 300 hp while towing i would be running 100 plus mph. the water temps will start to rise pretty quick when putting out over 250 hp for any real lenght of time. they did a study a while back and for a full blown over the road truck with a gvw of 80k, it takes 256 hp to keep it rollin at 65 mph.
i use my truck for D/D and playing, it does the truck pulls and drags very well. and has embarassed many another truck and more cars than i can count. mike

I've had my 370's for almost a month (not installed) waiting on a HTB2, (just came today). With my #10 and 191 DV's it ran way too hot, (1500* + within 3-4 seconds at full throttle) so I removed the DV's and still could get to 1500*, but not till about 75-80 mph. I moved the plate back about .060 and now the most I can hit is about 1200*. I did lose about .30 in a 1/4, but now I don't have to worry about temps. I've been told by one of the vendors that you will gain more HP with less heat using injectors over DV's, I don't think the DV's are necessarily supplying more fuel, than the injectors will, I think it's related to when the fuel comes on. DV's seem to bring the fuel on at the bottom end before the boost is up enough, injectors bring it on a little later. Sorry to run on, bottom line is I must agree with you, since after my experience I waited till my turbo got here before trying to installing my injectors.
