allison transmission

i have a ram 3500 5.9 cummings 4speed auto 3:55 gears my original transmission is excellent right now but i was woundering if i ever had problems would a allison got in this truck, truck has 107,000 miles:confused

you could build the 'stock' transmission for less money than it would cost to swap in an allison

The problem with swapping in an Allison is that even though they are both owned by Honda (or is is Toyota?) the tranny has way more electronics than the engine. It is very tough to get them to talk enough to get along.

I've never heard of a successful swap, not saying it can't be done, just that it wouldn't be easy...

Allison is a divison of GM.

I have a 47RE rebuilt by ATS, which is stronger than a stock Allison. Don't believe the hype you read about the Allison in GM pickups. It is no better than the current Dodge trannys. Best choice is to upgrade your 47RE. If you just have to have something different, a 48RE would be easier than an Allison, and perform better. Keep in mind that the Cummins performs in a lower RPM range than the V8 and the tranny must be engineered for this.

For less money...get a rebuild from one of the big four and have a bulletproof tranny.

i am the current owner of 2 allison equiped vehicles, id take my worked 47re over both of them hands down. needless to say, i wont make this mistake a third time.both are at545's
