AIR FLOW OF THE TWO
AIR FLOW OF THE TWO
IS THERE ANY WAY THAT A 12 VALVE CAN FLOW MORE AIR THAN A 24 VALVE IF YOU DO THE SAME AIR FLOW MODS. TO BOTH, SUCH AS PUTTING A PORTED HEAD ON THEM OR PUT THE SAME CAM IN THEM BOTH OR PUT THE SAME TURBO ON THEM OR WILL THE 24 VALVE BE AHEAD OF THE 12 VALVE IN AIR FLOW.
Re:AIR FLOW OF THE TWO
I'm no engineer, but nearly double the valve area should equal more air in. That said, a lot of times,4 valvers require such a different intake port that being turbocharged can kill any difference that valve area might make. My theory is that Cummins built the overvalvers as a way to lighten the valve assembly, for longevity and secondary as a gimmick, for Dodge to hype. Thats my story when my buddy gets on me about my antique tractor motor powered 95 model.

Oh Boy, here we go........

The 12 valve head properly ported will walk away from the 24 valve head ported any day.

Im not talking about flow bench numbers that operate using a vacuum. Im talking about flow numbers using a pressurized columb of air like our trucks have under boost.

Adding up the cross sectional area of both the 24 valve ports VS the area of the single 12 valve port will get you a common sense answer pretty quick.

Some guys try and apply gasser technology to head porting when it comes to diesels, forgetting we are under boost to get the air charge into the cylinder and not using a vacuum like gassers with ambient air.

I just read a thread where a guy bought a stage 2 head, installed it and lost 27HP on the dyno. He is still scrathcing his head on that one.

Don~
