Air compressor

Just put on a York style compressor on. Just letting anyone who is interested that it is a real easy installation and it really flows air. At 1500RPM's, it is supposed to flow around 8 cfm. The kit uses a york compressor and it bolts right over your alternator. It is only for 24 valves. Very nice setup. Now I can run air tools and fill up tires anywhere.

Re:Air compressor

That's pretty slick. I'd like one of those. It'd solve that stuck-on-the-road-in-the-middle-of-nowhere-with-an-underinflated-tire problem I've been worrying about. Sometimes I get a little lazy about checking the tire pressure , but getting better since I got that neat little radio shack digital tire pressure gauge to play with. ;D ;D

-SFB

Re:Air compressor

Pictures would be great. I have been debating/putting off/spending on other BOMBs the air compressor idea since I got my first truck.

Re:Air compressor

I have no idea if this is where ridofpwrstroke got his, but this place sells mounting/installation kits, plus the tanks, fittings, compressors, etc.

http://www.onboardair.com/

I have no affiliation with them, etc. They also have some reference info about York compressors that looks like it would be helpful in finding one in a junkyard somewhere.

Re:Air compressor

That is the exact place where I got my kit from. I put a sanden compressor on my other truck from kilby. I saw this kit and I installed it. I see there are a few people interested so here is everything. I got the kit at Kilby enterprises which is onboardair.com, the kit is 150 bucks and it comes with a new pulley for the alternator, a pulley that mounts to the bracket, a bracket, a small v-belt, and a longer serpentine belt. It comes with all the hardware. The instructions suck. It kept me guessing. The job took me 4 hours and if I did it again, it would take me an hour. You have to go to a junk yard to find the compressor or you can buy one from him. These york compressors are a dime a dozen so buy one from the junkyard. He has all the specs on what you have to measure to get one. The only problem I ran into is that you have to have a nippendenso alternator. I had a bosch and I tried to make it work. It will not align properly. I went to the junkyard and bought a 99 nippendenso. The only difference between the alternators is the plug in on the back. The bosch has a plug in type and the nip has bolts that you hook up wires. I just tapped the line and made two eyes and hooked up. The compressor has fittings and I hooked them up to the tank. I dont know if the compressor can pump out 200 psi, but i think it can. I dont have any pics but I can take a digital pic and post it. The key part is removing the bracket that holds the alternator on. The kit comes with a new bracket. Any more question, just ask.

Re:Air compressor

You might also want to buy the flange fittings from kilby. Make sure to also get a pressure switch.
